Ricardo designed a bespoke 2 day tour for me beginning in Tulum and taking in the Mayan sites of Coba, Ek Balam and Chichen Itza with a stop in Izamal and night’s stay in Valladolid. From my first email, Ricardo was prompt to respond and with a keen attention to detail to my requests for where I was most interested to visit. Traveling Mexico by myself, traveling these days with Ricardo was like traveling with a friend - he’s a lot of fun and full of energy (although with questionable taste in ice cream!) He’s incredibly knowledgable about the region, but I appreciated that he had also arranged for additional expert local guides at each of our Mayan sites who could speak more to the specifics of each location (and who were also all lovely). My tour with Mérida Gay Tours has been the best part of my trip. If you’re looking for a bespoke tour with personality and a personal touch, I’d highly recommend!

Having learned about Uxmal while watching a documentary on PBS, I was over the moon to find a tour offered by Mérida Gay Travel. My host, Ricardo, has a deep familiarity with the site and enlisted a Maya speaker to bring the experience to life. I had previously taken a Mérida City walking tour with Ricardo where he learned of my fascination with architecture and engineering. His preparation and research run so deep, that he was able to make adjustments on the fly and constantly dazzle. I am very grateful for visiting Uxmal with Ricardo of Mérida Gay Tours.

I would say that this trip was not as advertised the tour guide that was sent by Ricardo who was apparently sick for the day was not up to the task. We got a van instead of the SUV. We got some chips. We got cold water. It was nothing like it was last year. I would go out of my way to recommend that people find someone else other than Ricardo Apparently was sick which is understandable but he never checked back in with us. I don’t think he cares. I would find a different tour provider. We ended up with a different tour provider, even though we paid for this one.

We were very disappointed. Ricardo was suddenly unwell so he sent an alternate tour guide and driver. The guide, although very friendly was NOT gay, did not understand the history of the hacienda or the cenotes. He was very nice but it was not what we paid for. We had had a wonderful trip with Ricardo a year ago and returned with two lesbian friends specifically to have Ricardo take us around twice the first night. The Cantina tour was excellent. The second tour was disappointing, although we love the cenote. Ricardo never checked in with us after the trip was finished. I wouldn’t take a trip with him again I believe.

We had a wonderful time on the Cantina tour, especially joy, local restaurant to pop and really enjoyed the live music. Ricardo was a great guide and helped us understand and enjoy what we were seeing
