Before departure, participants should do the following:
Passport Check: U.S. passports must be valid for at least 3 months past your planned departure date from Europe.
Physical Documents for Spanish Border Control
While border agents check these at their discretion, Spain has strictly ramped up enforcement. You face being turned away if you cannot produce physical or digital copies of the following:
Proof of Accommodation: Print out hotel confirmations, itineraries, or tour circuit vouchers.
Proof of Onward Travel: A copy of confirmed round-trip airline ticket showing you will leave the Schengen area within 90 days
Proof of Financial Means: You must prove you have access to a minimum of Spain's required €121.10 per day per person. You can prove this via cash, traveler's checks, or major credit cards paired with a recently printed bank statement. Note: Spanish border control explicitly rejects online-only app statements or general bank letters; carry a printed, formal statement.
Upon Arrival in Spain
EES Biometric Scanning: A form is not filled out for this. When you reach passport control, you will go through the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES), which takes a digital photo and scans fingerprints to track your stay electronically instead of ink-stamping your passports.
