Special Workshop: Traditional Plaster Carving Techniques
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the traditional tools and techniques of plaster carving. Working with beautifully coloured plaster pieces, you’ll learn how to weave geometric and floral patterns, create rebates, and shape motifs so they catch the light in beautifully refined ways. Taught by a sculptor who has led over 100 carving workshops, this session is suitable for all abilities, from complete beginners to practising artists. You’ll explore both relief and pierced carving, experiment with historic methods, and gain an introduction to casting and mould making. Throughout the day, you’ll develop your skills through guided exercises before creating your own intricate carved panel to take home—an original artwork inspired by the stunning results achieved by previous students, and a testament to the elegance and depth of this timeless craft.
