Location: Bow Arts Trust, 183 Bow Rd, London E3 2SJ. Bow Road Underground (District + Hammersmith & City line) is a 6 minute walk from the studio, Bow Church DLR is 3 min walk.
The workshop begins with practical exercises to build familiarity with specialist tools and techniques used by woodcarvers worldwide. You’ll explore traditional motifs, patterns, and carving styles from diverse cultures, then design and carve your own piece in Lime wood. For beginners, this is the perfect introduction to the craft. For more advanced participants, it’s an opportunity to develop your sculptural skills further, refining your understanding of scale, proportion, and design development.
What You’ll Learn
How to select and use the correct tools, sharpening techniques for chisels and knives, wood sourcing and selection for carving, a variety of carving methods and approaches, how to experiment with different finishes, and the creative process from maquette to completed piece.
