Begin the tour in Duddingston Village, a peaceful enclave at the foot of Arthur’s Seat. Home to Scotland’s oldest pub, the Sheep Heid Inn, and a 900-year-old church, this village feels a world away from the city centre and offers a glimpse of Edinburgh as it once was. During the visit we also explore Dr Neil’s Garden, a hidden oasis beside the loch with strong links to Scottish cultural history. Duddingston is closely associated with the early formalisation of the rules of curling, which were written here in the 19th century, and the nearby loch famously inspired the iconic painting of the Skating Minister, one of Scotland’s most celebrated artworks.
