Experience the seamless beauty of the Adriatic and its rugged hinterland through a unique collaboration between three regional experts: Montenegro Adventures, Ventula Travel DMC (Croatia), and iHouse Travel (Bosnia and Herzegovina). This tour is created as part of the implementation of the EU-funded EmBRACE Project, during which we implemented the project Adriatic & Beyond: Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina – Explore the Adriatic’s Coastal Jewels and the Balkans’ Wild Highlands in One Epic Journey. The tours are designed for the discerning traveller seeking depth, authenticity, and environmental stewardship. Our shared mission is to promote sustainable tourism by weaving together the natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality of all three countries into one seamless, unforgettable journey.

Balkans Unbound is a dynamic Adriatic & highlands adventure, a masterful blend of the Western Balkans’ most dramatic landscapes. This journey takes you from the emerald river valleys of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the rugged canyonlands of Montenegro to the sun-drenched island passages of the Croatian coast. Designed for the active spirit, this itinerary offers a rhythmic, high-energy transition through the region’s most breathtaking natural wonders, ideal for small groups of active adult travellers or families with teenagers.

Day 1 - Split Arrival & Boat Embarkation

Begin Your Adriatic Sailing Adventure

Split arrival & Boat embarkation (Croatia)

Upon arrival in Split, you’ll be transferred directly to the port, where your ship and crew will be waiting. After embarkation, settle into your cabin and take a moment to unwind as the journey begins. Sail out along the Dalmatian coast and enjoy the changing views from the deck. In the evening, join your fellow travelers for the official Captain’s Dinner — a relaxed introduction to life at sea and the week ahead.

Day 2 - Brač Island Exploration

E-Biking, Olive Oil Tasting, and Adriatic Swim

Brač Island E-Bike Tour and Olive Mill Visit

At dawn, the yacht slips out into the Adriatic toward the island of Brač. By mid-morning, you’ll arrive near Bol. Swap sea legs for mountain wheels as you set off on e-bikes through olive groves and ancient stone villages above the Zlatni Rat (“Golden Horn”) spit. Your guide leads you to a family olive mill and winery, where you’ll sample freshly pressed olive oil and homemade wine alongside local cheese.

Swim Stop in a Sheltered Cove

In the early afternoon, return to the yacht for a swim stop in a sheltered cove—don your mask and snorkel to explore clear sea waters.

Evening Sail Toward Hvar

Afterward, the yacht continues toward Hvar as evening falls.

Day 3 - Biking on Hvar & Stari Grad Plains Exploration

Cycling through Stari Grad Plain

After breakfast at anchor off Hvar, you’ll cycle through the Stari Grad Plain—an agricultural grid laid out by Greeks in 384 BC and now UNESCO-protected. Pedal past terraced vineyards and lavender fields to a small village where a local family welcomes you for a traditional lunch of grilled lamb, seasonal vegetables, and homemade wine.

Village Walk and Tasting

In the late afternoon, arrive at an authentic village for a guided walk, visiting a centuries-old stone cottage to taste homemade cured meat and cheese.

Traditional Dalmatian Dinner

As the sun sets, a traditional Dalmatian dinner awaits in town before you return to the yacht.

Day 4 - Military Heritage Tour and Vis Island Exploration

Explore Vis Military Tunnels and Komiza Waterfront

Military Heritage Tour on Vis Island

Set sail from Hvar Harbor toward the rugged shores of Vis Bay. Once you arrive, explore Vis Town briefly before heading inland to the hidden network of WWII military tunnels. This tour offers an in-depth look at Vis Island’s military history, taking you into the heart of its secretive Cold War-era past. You’ll travel through a network of underground tunnels, fortified artillery points, and hidden bunkers carved into the rocky terrain.

Free Time in Komiza

Afterward, return to the waterfront for free time in Komiza—grab a gelato, swim along pebbled beaches, or wander artisan shops lining the harbor.

Day 5 - Žrnovo Village & Korčula Old Town

Cycle Žrnovo, Farm Lunch, Korčula Old Town

Sail to Korčula Island and Cycle Žrnovo

Depart at dawn for a short sail to Korčula Island. Upon arrival in Korčula Town, switch to bicycles and ride through the forested lanes surrounding Žrnovo village.

Lunch at Family-Run Farm

Pause at a family-run farm for a leisurely lunch of homemade cheese, freshly baked bread, and house wine overlooking olive groves.

Walking Tour of Korčula Old Town

Rejoin your guide for a walking tour of Korčula Old Town: wander cobblestone streets, admire Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and visit St. Mark’s Cathedral.

Free Time in Korčula

In the late afternoon, enjoy free time to browse local artisan shops or relax at a waterfront café.

Evening Sail Toward Mljet

Return to the boat as dusk falls, setting course for Mljet.

Day 6 - Cruise to Mljet National Park

This morning, the yacht cruises to Mljet Island. Anchoring at Pomena, embark on a scenic bike ride through dense pine forest to the Salt Lake—large and lagoon-like—where the 12th-century Benedictine monastery sits on a tiny islet.

Swim in Salt Lake and Monastery Visit

You’ll have time for a brisk swim in the brackish waters before visiting the monastery church.

Picnic Lunch by the Lake

Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake under pine trees.

Cycle to Polače and Evening Sail

In mid-afternoon, cycle back to the village of Polače, where the yacht awaits for an evening sail toward the Elaphiti Islands.

Day 7 - Elaphite Islands Visit and Sail to Dubrovnik

After breakfast, embark on a private boat tour to the Elaphiti Islands, a stunning Adriatic archipelago just off the coast of Dubrovnik. The journey includes stops at Šipan and Lopud, two of the most charming islands in the region.

Visit to Suđurađ Village on Šipan

On Šipan, visit the historic village of Suđurađ, where centuries-old stone houses, olive groves, and quiet harbors provide a glimpse into traditional island life.

Lunch at Local Restaurant

After a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant, continue sailing to Lopud.

Sail to Lopud Island

Continue sailing to Lopud, an island known for its crystal-clear waters, car-free streets, and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.

Dock in Dubrovnik and Leisure Time

Dock in Dubrovnik in the late afternoon, with the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 8 - Blagaj Tekke, Mostar & Fortica Sunset

Visit Blagaj Tekke

After breakfast and disembarkation in Dubrovnik, cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina. Your first stop is Blagaj Tekke, where a serene Dervish monastery perches beside a cold karst spring.

Stroll along the riverbank and enjoy lunch at a riverside café.

Guided Tour of Mostar Old Town

Continue to Mostar for a guided tour of the Ottoman-era Old Town—marvel at its iconic Stari Most bridge and wander cobblestone lanes lined with artisan stalls.

In the early evening, ascend to Fortica Plateau for sweeping views of Mostar and the surrounding valley.

Day 9 - Konjic & Rakitnica River Canyoning

Depart Mostar after breakfast and journey into rugged Herzegovina toward Konjic. Here, meet your canyoning guides and gear up by the Rakitnica River.

Transfer to Forest Eco Camp

After a full day of adrenaline, transfer to a nearby eco camp nestled in the forest.

Day 10 - Lukomir, Umoljani & Camp Grab

Visit Lukomir Village

After an early breakfast, drive into the remote highlands above Konjic and visit Lukomir—Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village. Explore stone cottages and meadows dotted with wildflowers, and meet residents who keep ancient herding traditions alive.

Afternoon in Umoljani

In the afternoon, continue to Umoljani, another traditional highland hamlet perched on steep slopes. Learn about local sheep farming and enjoy a simple home-cooked meal.

Day 11 - Towards Durmitor! Montenegro

Following lunch at Camp Grab, follow the winding Durmitor ring road toward Žabljak, Montenegro’s mountain town.

Pass dramatic limestone peaks and glacial lakes, pausing at scenic overlooks for photographs. As you approach Žabljak, soak in views of Tara Canyon and the dense pine forests that line the highway.

Arrive in town by late afternoon and check in at your mountain lodge, where the crisp air and peaceful setting await.

Day 12 - Adventure day in Durmitor

After descending, switch to hiking boots for an afternoon trek to the “Three Black Lake,” a trio of glacial lakes nestled in a high-altitude basin. Follow forest trails and alpine meadows as you circle the lakes.

Day 13 - Nevidio Canyon & Ostrog Monastery

Explore Nevidio Canyon and Ostrog Monastery

Nevidio Canyon Exploration

Depart Zabljak at dawn and head toward Nevidio Canyon, one of Montenegro’s deepest gorges. Enter the narrow canyon on foot, where the rushing river carves the limestone walls. Traverse walkways, scramble over boulders, and, if conditions allow, wade through shallow pools beneath towering cliffs.

Visit to Ostrog Monastery

Journey to Ostrog Monastery—carved into a vertical cliff face and a major Orthodox pilgrimage site. After visiting the ornate chapels, continue to a nearby winery for a tasting of Montenegrin reds and cheeses before arriving in Podgorica for the night.

Day 14 - Rijeka Crnojevica Kayak & Vineyard Lunch

After breakfast in Podgorica, depart for Rijeka Crnojevica. Launch your kayak on the tranquil river and paddle through lush riverbanks toward Skadar Lake’s fringes. Keep an eye out for herons and kingfishers along the way.

Vineyard Lunch

After two hours on the water, disembark for a short drive to a local vineyard set on a gentle slope overlooking the lake. Savor a leisurely lunch of Montenegrin specialties paired with estate-produced wines.

Village Exploration

Spend the afternoon wandering the nearby village before returning to Podgorica.

Day 15 - Lovćen, Cetinje & Budva Excursion

Depart early for the cable car ride up Mount Lovćen—Montenegro’s “Jewel of the Riviera.” Ascend to the summit, where the Mausoleum of Njegoš stands, offering panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor and Adriatic beyond.

Cetinje Historic Walk

Descend to Cetinje, the old royal capital, and stroll its historic streets to visit former embassies and the National Museum.

Budva Old Town Exploration

In the afternoon, continue to Budva and explore the walled Old Town—meander through narrow alleys, visit seaside fortifications, and relax on sandy beaches before returning to Podgorica.

Day 16 - Blue Cave & Perast Boat Tour

Sail to Blue Cave and Perast’s Baroque Waterfront

Blue Cave Boat Tour

On your final day, board a traditional wooden boat in Kotor and sail toward the Lustica Peninsula at the southern entrance of Boka Bay. Your first stop is the Blue Cave—also called the Blue Grotto—nestled on the peninsula’s western side, where sunlight refracts through the water to bathe the rocky interior in vivid azure hues.

After a swim off a sheltered ledge at the Blue Cave, continue on to the man-made islet of Our Lady of the Rocks near Perast.

Visit Our Lady of the Rocks and Perast

Step ashore to explore the Baroque church and its small museum, then linger along Perast’s waterfront, admiring centuries-old Venetian palaces before returning to Kotor’s quay.
