About This Journey

Few destinations in the Western Hemisphere combine history, artistry, culture, and sheer beauty as compellingly as the colonial heartland of central Mexico. San Miguel de Allende — a UNESCO World Heritage city perched at 6,400 feet in the Bajío highlands — has earned a devoted following among discerning travelers for good reason: its cobblestone lanes, saffron facades, and the blush-pink spires of the Parroquia create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on earth. Nearby, the storied city of Guanajuato adds a university town’s energy, a kaleidoscope of color, and Mexico’s most celebrated Revolutionary history. Our eight days here are designed not simply to show you these cities, but to invite you into them — through private historian evenings, art studio visits, countryside haciendas, vineyard tastings, and farewell dinners in rooms that feel like a privilege to enter.

Tour Pricing:
Double Occupancy: $4750 per person

Explore Atotonilco Sanctuary and Organic Ranch

activity icon

Guided Visit to Santuario de Atotonilco

Your first destination is the Santuario de Atotonilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been called the Sistine Chapel of Mexico for the extraordinary devotional murals that cover its walls, ceilings, and domes from floor to nave. A guided visit here is one of those rare travel experiences that stops you in your tracks — not because the art is famous, but because it is overwhelming in its sincerity and scale.
activity icon

Visit and Lunch at Rancho Vía Orgánica

From Atotonilco, the motorcoach continues to Rancho Vía Orgánica, a working organic farm and educational center that sits at the intersection of sustainable agriculture and Mexican culinary tradition. A guided walk through the gardens and farm buildings introduces you to the land and the philosophy behind it; lunch is taken together at the rancho, where the ingredients on your plate were grown steps away.

This morning the motorcoach winds through the Bajio on the hour-long drive to Guanajuato—a city so dramatically beautiful, so architecturally improbable, and so thoroughly itself that it tends to inspire an immediate and fierce affection in everyone who visits. Your guided morning takes in Teatro Juarez, one of Mexico’s great 19th-century theaters, before a stroll through the Callejon del Beso—the legendary Alley of the Kiss, where two balconies face each other just close enough to have inspired generations of romantic legend.

Day 7 - Botanical Garden and Farewell Celebration

Day 7 - Botanical Garden and Farewell Celebration image

Explore El Charco Botanical Garden and Farewell Dinner

activity icon

Guided Tour of El Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden

El Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden, perched on a dramatic ravine at the edge of the city, protects one of Mexico’s finest collections of native cacti and succulents—more than 1,500 plant species set against a landscape of volcanic rock, canyon walls, and open sky. A guided tour through the garden is a genuinely different kind of experience from the colonial streets and grand buildings of the preceding days, and the views back toward the city from the garden’s higher paths are among the most beautiful in San Miguel.
general icon

Free Exploration in San Miguel Centro

From the garden, the group descends into the centro for a final morning of free exploration—a last chance to return to a favorite shop, sit at a favorite café, or simply wander the lanes that have become familiar over the course of the week. Your tour directors are available throughout the day for any questions or assistance.
meal icon

Farewell Dinner at Andanza Restaurant at Casa de Sierra Nevada

This evening, the group gathers for a farewell dinner at Andanza Restaurant at Casa de Sierra Nevada, housed in a historic Belmond property at the heart of San Miguel’s most beautiful block. The courtyard dining room is elegant without being stiff, and the food reflects the same care and regional intelligence that has characterized the best meals of this journey.
