Our journey begins this morning in the Willamette Valley, with pickups at Tualatin near 8:45 AM, Woodburn near 9:30 AM, and Salem near 10:00 AM. We travel east over the Cascade Range, pausing midday for lunch as the landscape shifts from evergreen forest to open high desert.

By mid-afternoon we arrive in Bend and settle into our hotel, with time to rest before we gather for a welcome dinner this evening.

After breakfast we depart Bend and travel south toward one of the great natural wonders of the American West.

Set out on a narrated trolley tour along the rim road, taking in the views while someone else does the driving. There is time afterward to enjoy the overlooks and the lodge veranda.

Gather for dinner in the lodge dining room, with the caldera stretching out below as the light softens over the water.

We enjoy a relaxed morning at the rim before departing, pausing at a striking gorge where the Rogue River rushes through a narrow channel of ancient lava.

The evening brings a highlight of the tour, a jet boat cruise up the Rogue River to a scenic dinner, gliding between forested banks with a good chance of spotting wildlife along the way.

We cross into California through a corridor of towering redwoods, following the wild and scenic Smith River as it winds toward the coast.

Those who wish may join a gentle guided float on the clear waters of the Smith, drifting beneath the great trees, while others enjoy a level walk among an old-growth grove nearby.

We then continue a short distance to Crescent City and settle in along the harbor.

Dinner is arranged this evening, with time afterward to rest by the coast.

We turn north and cross back into Oregon along one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in the country, stopping at accessible viewpoints where sea stacks, natural arches, and hidden coves come into view.

We continue up the coast, pausing for lunch along the way, and arrive in the charming seaside town of Bandon, our home for the final two nights.

Today is a relaxed day in Bandon. We take in the town's famous sea stacks from level viewpoints and enjoy the shops and galleries of Old Town at an easy pace.

After a relaxed lunch on our own in Old Town, we visit the historic Coquille River Lighthouse standing at the mouth of the river, with time to take in the views and the quiet maritime setting before we return for the evening.

We come together for a final coastal dinner this evening.

After breakfast and a last morning to enjoy Bandon, we depart near 10:00 AM and travel over the Coast Range toward home, pausing midday for a comfort stop along the way.
