Dear Friends,
I would like to share with you what the Holy Land means to me: In 1974, I had the opportunity to travel to Jerusalem to see that special place on earth where God’s plan for humanity unfolded. That trip turned out to be a pivotal event in my life and I ended up spending 32 years there. During that time I discovered my priestly vocation and my particular mission in life.
Now I would like to invite you to join me in a Holy Land pilgrimage. Our bishops encourage everyone to do so. Here is their message to potential pilgrims: “they should undertake their pilgrimage
in a profoundly religious spirit, understanding they will be walking along the way of the Lord”. Pilgrimages offer a special opportunity for Christian renewal and for carrying out the Church’s mission of solidarity and reconciliation. Pilgrimage is a unique religious undertaking…Hearts and minds transformed forever, pilgrims have returned home with a new sense of their Christian calling to take up a new way of life. Potential pilgrims should not be discouraged by reports of the ongoing political instability in the region. They should draw strength from the generations of Christians who have made the pilgrimage to the Holy Land before them.”
With that vision in mind, I invite you to join us on December 8-19, 2019 for the St. Thomas More Christmas Pilgrimage. Please prayerfully consider this unique opportunity to grow in your faith by visiting the birthplace of our faith.
Fr. Rick Van de Water
