Bartolome dive day tour

Our stay at Waita lodge was undeniably the greatest highlight of our trip to Ecuador. Staying deep in the Cuyabeno Nature Reserve was incredible and unique. It made the (very) long journey to get there so worth it.

Our main guide, Diego, was kind, helpful, extremely knowledgeable and interesting and showed genuine care for our interests. He helped us see over 7 types of monkeys among countless birds, insects and more. The other staff there were also lovely and helpful. The food was great (so much fresh fruit!!) and the lodge/stay itself was comfortable and clean. 

I truly cannot say enough good things about our experience here. It is well worth the extra travel in comparison to many of the other lodges to get deeper into nature.

It did not work well for me.  The highlight was seeing 2 or 3 blue-footed boobie birds.  Our guide was so-so.  The island was very desert, with some cactus trees and a few iguanas.  A place I would want not to see again.  I opted out of snorkeling, so I missed a bit.  The beach was beautiful white sand, with a bunch of sea lions on the left 40%.  The 2-hour boat ride each way was unremarkable and the lunch adequate.  Unlike the day before's 2-hour boat ride (to Bartolomé Island), I did not connect with other passengers much at all.  No dolphins accompanying us.

From the moment we left for the airport in Quito, Ecutraveling and the Galapagos Galaxy Cruise made sure that we were safe, fully aware of how to properly enter the Galapagos Islands National Park, and well fed. The travel was easy, and the cruise had wonderful and friendly staff, clean rooms, delicious food, and an itinerary packed with once in a life time activities! On this cruise, I really enjoyed learning from our Naturalist guide about different aspects of the islands, from their volcanic beginnings to the methods of flora and fauna colonization and evolution over thousands of years. I'd whole heartedly recommend this ship and her crew to anyone and everyone interested in visiting the islands!

Een geweldige en onvergetelijke ervaring! We hebben van alle 5 de dagen genoten. Waita lodge is gelegen in een schitterend gebied, aan een mooie lagune. We zagen 110 vogelsoorten, bizarre insecten, 6 soorten apen, kaaimannen, slangen en niet te vergeten roze dolfijnen. Dat alles dankzij onze geweldige gids Jefferson Morales. 5+sterren voor deze sympathieke en energieke man met extra ogen in zijn achterhoofd. 
Het eten was heerlijk, de lodges zijn prima. We hebben genoten van de tochten met de gemotoriseerde kano en met de de gewone kano. De samenwerking tussen de stuurman van de kano en Jefferson is verbazingwekkend. Zowel overdag als tijdens de avond. Al met al een hele dikke aanrader! 

Guide Diego is very friendly and a good guide: He has lots of knowledge about animals, plants and local communities. He really tries to find animals we like to see. Speaks very good English. Staff is super friendly and helpful with everything. Chef is really good, he makes a different meal every time.  The surrounding of the lodge are relaxt, no other lodges around. It’s not constantly surrounded by animals (besides birds), but because of the many tours (walking, motorboat, cano, in both daytime and at night) we did see many different species.  The buildings are not new, but they are being maintained by the locals and everything you need is there (warm shower, fan, mosquito net, coffee/thee, drinking water, wifi). Highly recommended!

Our stay at Waita Lodge was great!!! Diego our tour guide and was truly amazing.  He was so knowledgeable and passionate about what he does.  He was able to find and identify so many birds, insects, animals etc..  the staff at the lodge were very professional and friendly and they seemed truly interested in helping us have a wonderful experience at the lodge.   The food was amazing, and place was very clean and well kept.   We are planning to return for a longer stay next visit and can’t wait to return.

This trip was amazing. The hike is so worth doing and the bike ride is a nice break from the hike. When you get breakfast, make sure to buy Coca at the shop!! 

My guide and driver totally took care of me. Due to the holidays, I hiked Cotopaxi on my seconds day in Ecuador. Not recommended due to the altitude but it was the only time in my schedule allowed it. The rest of the group had already been in Ecuador for a few days/week so they were acclimated. They all literally hiked way ahead of me. My guide came back to make sure I was Ok. I was Just hiking that slow - you will feel the altitufe :). When you get to Refugio, make sure to get your name on your country flag! 

Afterwards, We did a bike downhill to the lake. You don’t have to do it. You can just get in the van and the driver will drive you. I did It bc I wanted the exercise. But I was that slow bc the road is gravel and I was Trying to chill out from the hike. Driver stayed behind me the whole time to make sure I was Ok. 

If you have more time, def worth staying overnight at Cotopaxi. But if you’re pressed for time like I was, this one day excursion is perfect. You’re well taken care of. Bring water, layers, good shoes and your altitude meds!

I was picked up at the airport and brought to the center of the world and to old town. I had an extremely great guide that was very helpful and knowledgeable. He made very good suggestions for a restaurant. He was able to get me back to the airport in plenty of time

In the middle of the Ecuadorian Amazon you will find this hidden gem…Waita Lodge. Our family of 2 adults and 4 kids spent five days there and absolutely loved every second of it. Every detail was very well organized, food was great, accommodation clean and comfortable. The daily schedule was a perfect balance of different kinds of activities (birdwatching, boat rides, jungle hikes, paddle boarding, piranha fishing, etc) and rest time. Our guide always checked with our group if we were all agreeable to do certain activities at certain times. The lodge is located in a quiet area in the Cuyabeno Reserve away from any other lodges so you truly feel immersed in nature. All the staff were very welcoming. But what made our experience truly memorable was our guide, Carlos. His passion for nature was clearly evident. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the wildlife and plants that we encountered. His English was very good which meant our kids with their limited Spanish, were also able to learn a lot from him. We have been traveling in Ecuador for three months and this was one of our favorite experiences and we can’t wait to be back to the Waita Lodge to explore more of the Amazon rainforest.

We had the time of our lives at Waita Lodge. Every day was a new adventure. Saw so many great animals and even got up close to a toucan. Our guide, Charlie was incredible! He was so passionate about not only the wildlife, but also the preservation efforts of the Amazon. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. The food and the rest of the staff were also fantastic! So glad we chose Waita

We had a wonderful time at the Waita Lodge.  Our guide was thoughtful and knowledgeable, and we enjoyed the mix of activities available to us.  The food was very good as well, and they provided plenty of snacks, which is helpful when traveling with children.  Our main issue was the transportation issue; we were given the option of having a private van versus a shuttle bus.  We chose the shuttle bus, but were not informed of the constraints of this option.  We were asked repeatedly during the weekend how we were going to handle the departure to the shuttle, which was not something I understood to be our responsibility.  We were told that it would cost another $40 to reach the shuttle, which had to be paid in cash, and resulted in us having less money available for tips.  Ultimately, the company paid for the price of the shuttle, but it significantly affected our travel on the last day.  We were also not given a lunch on the last day, which meant that we did not eat between breakfast and dinner; there was no time to eat between getting off the canoe, into a mixto, and then the shuttle bus.

Great thanks to WeTravel and our guider Andres, we explored in Los Andes for three days, trekking in mountain with grand views, visiting indigenous markets and villages, that’s all I wanted and so impressive. 
All the trip was customized and well organized. I do hope one day have chance to visit Los Andes again.

Amazing time. The food was great, we saw lots of animals (multiple species of monkeys, agouti, capybara, giant river otter, snakes, birds, etc), we saw a jaguar footprint, and we were able to catch lots of fish (the chefs prepared some of the fish and kept the piranha jaws for us). Several times large arapima swam by in the river and hit their tails on the surface. The staff also provided us with bait for fishing when ever it was requested. We were the only people at the lodge during our trip so we were also offered access to a canoe and paddle boards whenever we wanted. Our guide, Jefferson, was very knowledgeable and has written a book about Ecuador as well.

I had a great time with amazing people and knowledgeable our guide Jefferson. The lodge was clean and comfortable. They gave me tasty meals.

The trip was so much more than I was expecting. There were a lot of activities that I wasn’t even aware that we were going to have. It was lots of fun! I was a solo traveler, and everyone on the trip were great people to spend time with. I enjoyed all of our accommodations except one, but even with that, the place was in a good location. This was definitely 5 Stars from me!

Amazing time in the amazone at Waita! With Carlos we had a very passionate, kind and knowledgable guide who showed us so much of the beauty the rainforest had to offer. He was also a top birder, and managed to help us hear and see many bird species. The accomodation was basic and had all you needed for a little home in the jungle. The local staff was kind and welcoming, proud to accomodate you in their home. The food was really really tasty and plentyfull, all you need after a day in the jungle. Really happy with the community based approach of lodge. It differs from other lodges by being owned and ran by families in cuyabeno, so the money spend here doesn't go to quito or abroad, but support 's the Livelyhoods of local families, benefitting conservation efforts.

Everything was Great, the Lodge, our Guide Carlos, Benito and all the other guys from our Lodge. We had 5 amazing days in the jungle. We are happy that we were part of this nice and lovely project. 
The food was so delicious, we didn't expect that good meals in the jungle.

We chose Waita lodge because in wasn't on the lagoon with all the other lodges so felt we would have the river to ourselves. This proved correct as we saw only one other boat from another operator the whole time we were there. 

The Place was comfy and well organised with a good program of activities, including boat rides, jungle walks, paddleboarding and piranha fishing.
 
We saw lots of wildlife - Birds, Monkeys, Insects and pink dolphins on very trip on the river.

Our guide Diego was very good - especially with insects and he made the whole time very enjoyable.

We visited Ecuador during the recent emergency situation which caused a few tweaks to our original itinerary - Ecuatraveling and Estaban communicated very well  and the whole thing went very smoothly - thanks everyone

Waita Lodge Extras

Our day trip to Mindo was a wonderful experience. Our Guide, Andres, was knowledgeable and gave great recommendations on which activities we should do. It was great to have him as our driver too. He navigated busy rush hour streets in Quito and answered all our questions about the countryside during the drive.  This was a great way to end our vacation in Ecuador. Highly recommend!

Our tour didn't arrive at our hotel to collect us, we called the company multiple times but couldn't get a response. 
Eventually spoke to someone an hour later, who said the transport had had an accident but they could change us to a shorter biking tour leaving later in the day. Felt like our horse tour booking had been forgotten, so we cancelled. The company did refund our fee but it wasn't good service for an expensive tour.

By far exceeded expectations! The accommodations are good, meals were fabulous (thank you Beto!), and the guide (Diego) was excellent. I would also like to thank the remaining lodge staff and canoe drivers who are often unsung heroes in making a guest's stay pleasurable... everyone was wonderful. We saw so much animal, bird, insect, and vegetation life that it felt like a never ending natural history show. I have been to multiple Ecuadorian amazon lodges and Waita has just become my #1 go to and I strongly believe I will be back.

Pablo from EcuaTraveling made the process super smooth and got me to this amazing live aboard cruise. Highly recommended every aspect of the trip. The wildlife was amazing and the boat was super nice. Trip of a lifetime.

This was a great experience for our 4-girl trip!  We had a fantastic staff that worked very hard for us.  The boat was beautiful and well serviced.  The itinerary kept us busy all day yet we did not feel over scheduled.  Five stars and would highly recommend.

Our day tour of Quito's Old Town and the Middle of the World was an absolute delight, leaving us with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for Ecuador's rich history and culture. From the moment we set foot in this enchanting city, guided by Ivan, our experience was nothing short of magical.

We started our adventure by exploring the Historic Old Town of Quito, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, and a true gem nestled in the heart of the Andes. The name "Old Town" itself carries an air of wonder and romance, and as we wandered through its cobblestone streets and historic buildings, we felt transported back in time. Ivan's knowledge of the area's history and architecture added a layer of depth to our exploration, making every step a fascinating journey through the past.

The highlight of our visit to Old Town was undoubtedly the Panecillo, a hill that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Quito. At its summit stands the magnificent 30-meter-high statue of the Virgen of Quito. The climb to the top was rewarded with a mesmerizing vista of the city, surrounded by lush green hills. It was a moment of sheer awe and serenity.

In the afternoon, our adventure continued as Ivan led us to the Equator. Standing at the Mitad del Mundo, where the Southern and Northern Hemispheres converge, was a surreal experience. We couldn't resist taking pictures straddling both hemispheres, a memory we'll cherish forever. The Equator museum was equally enlightening, offering insights into Ecuador's diverse culture and heritage.

One of the highlights of our Middle of the World visit was the Museum Intiyan, where we witnessed the unique phenomena of the equator. Ivan's explanations and demonstrations were not only informative but also entertaining. From watching water drain in different directions on either side of the equator to balancing an egg on the tip of a nail, the experience was mind-boggling and fun.

Throughout the tour, Ivan's expertise, enthusiasm, and friendly demeanor made the day truly exceptional. He shared his passion for Ecuador's history, culture, and natural wonders with infectious enthusiasm, making us feel like we were exploring with a knowledgeable friend.

Very good organization & always fast communication/response by Pablo/Ecua Traveling. 
The program took us to places and people we would not have selected/visited and that made it unique. The acclimatization tour @ Iliniza Norte was a great choice! 

Summit of Cayambe was very tough, but our guide Pablo Chiquiza helped us when needed, was patient and clear with his instructions- would go with him anytime again! 

Also the equipment from CondorTrekk was good, sturdy boots very good.

It was a really nice trip. The Guides and also the food were amazing. We enjoyed our stay at the Waita Lodge and can recommend it to everyone.

When we arrived in Santa Cruz  we received a good lunch. But had to wait for 2 hours to go on the ferry to Isabela.  On the boat we were the last persons so had to sit in front . Which is terrible if you feel seesickness.  The boat was full. so if we had arrived sooner we could had have better places. We had enough time . 
At arrival we supposed to go to the flamingos but the man of the transfer/hotel said it was too late. So whole day we had done nothing!
Next day we heard from a tourist that we easily had go to the flamingos because it was close by.
Before we left to Galapagos we heard that the hotel we supposed to go was not reserved and we where booked in a another hotel. The diner was included.  The lady of the hotel made herself the diner and we where the only guests who had diner there.  No taste at all! We decided to go to a restaurant the last evening to have some good food. 
The excursions to the vulcany was 5 hours!!! Much too long in the heat , 16 km .  In the afernoon we went for a snorkelexursion. My snorkleset was broken. The guide said that in the moring it is better to go for snorkling because of the tide.  We had seen nothing because it was too blury.
Next day in morning to turtle rehabilitation centre and saw 3 flamingos, afternoon snorkling . Again the same problem. No vision and the people said you better can do this in the morning. 
Next day to Santa Cruz to Charles Darwin center and the turtles. We had tried to change this to the afternoon but this was not possible. 
If I had expected  when I made the reservation to be advised what my whishes where I had a much better stay.
The price was too expensive .  It where cheap hotels and the excursion fo the vulcany was very bad. The guide was not fit and told not much.  
When I go again I will plan myself everything .
Overall a very disapointing experience .

Hola!  our trip to the Waita Lodge in the Amazon, was taken at the very last minute by us from South Africa.  This did not stop our Agent, Esteban Ludena at Ecuatravel, giving us his all his assistance and advice to make our visit happen.
Our 3 hour long-boat trip along an Amazon tributary took us to our lodge in the heart of the jungle.; on a bank above the river, in the trees, clean bright with lovely palm thatched private ensuite bungalows.  
we were busy all day with our on-site guide, Diego, whose knowledge of everything from ants to Jaguars was astounding!  our days varied, but we walked on a forest path looking and listening at least once a day, and spent happy hours cruising the main river or backwater estuaries looking for wild life; we saw many mammals, amongst others,  pink river dolphins, giant otters, sloths, 6 species of monkey, and over 58 bird species never before spotted us by before.  
We are still wondering how the chef managed to feed us as well as he did; fresh fruit,  fresh vegetables and local specialities, three times a day.  
As we boarded our long canoe to return to the Jetty, signalling the end of our trip, both Peter and I cried a little.   We were privileged to have been able to spend time in this unique wild place.

I recently went on the Cotopaxi hike and bike tour with 15 friends, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in every way possible. This is by far, one of the best adventure tours I have experienced in a long time, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling outdoor adventure.

From start to finish, the entire experience was simply amazing. The guides, Estuardo and Fran were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, offering stories and insights about Cotopaxi and Ecuador in general that truly helped to enhance the experience.

The hike was simply breathtaking and some of us reached the glacier. The bike ride was equally thrilling, with a mix of challenging terrain and fast-paced downhill sections that were simply exhilarating.

What really made the Cotopaxi hike and bike tour stand out was the passion and enthusiasm of the guides. They genuinely cared about our safety and enjoyment, offering helpful tips and advice throughout the journey.

Overall, I cannot recommend this tour enough. If you're looking for an adventure tour that ticks all the boxes, then the Cotopaxi hike and bike tour is the perfect choice. With amazing guides, incredible scenery, and non-stop excitement, it's an experience you'll never forget!

Really enjoyed the guide Alex. Very informative. Very easy to communicate with before the trip for pick up and great price. The restaurant and food were top-notch. It was a very fun day!!!
