About this trip

This program is ideal for those who want to get off the beaten path and enjoy the pristine nature of the patagonian fjords. Come explore our estancia with an experienced local guide and share stories, wine and regional foods while marveling at the untouched corners of this part of the world.

Our multi-day guests enjoy a stay in our newly renovated countryside cabin known as “La Barrosa.” This quaint off the grid getaway is located 8km from the main estancia houses and comes with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and kitchen area.  This experience is sold as a full board package that includes your own private guide, all trekking and horseback activities, meals, beverages and transportation to and from the estancia via boat. This is the ultimate opportunity to disconnect from the world as La Barrosa has no internet or phone reception.

General Itinerary

Your program begins with a shared 40 minute navigation through the Last Hope Fjord to Estancia la Peninsula where you will be welcomed to the main house with a light breakfast. You will discuss your personalized schedule with your guide depending on if you are doing trekking, horseback riding or just want to go straight to the barrosa cabin to relax or do shorter activities. The schedule is quite flexible depending on the weather and your personal physical abilities. The day’s activities could last for as little as one hour or as much as six, and we have routes made for all levels of fitness. Once your plan is made bigger luggage will be loaded into the truck to be driven to the cabin and you will take your day items with you (such as layers, sunblock, camera etc.).

At some point during your Barrosa adventure you will join up with our full day tour for lunch at the main estancia house to eat a traditional Patagonian lamb barbeque. Afterwards you will enjoy a demonstration of how our sheep dogs work and see one of our gauchos shear a sheep in our barn.

Bed Arrangements

The cabin has two rooms each with a private bathroom and the following bed arrangements:

– 1 room with a double bed (which can also be separated into two twin beds)
– 1 room with twin beds and the possibility to add another bed as a bunk bed.
* It is possible to have both rooms with double beds, but we recommend you check with us before booking.

For larger groups, there can be tents set up by the house, being able to use the bathrooms and dining room makes everything easier, some of you still can use the rooms in the house.

Food & Beverages

All meals are provided for the duration of your stay and we are able to accommodate for any restrictions if advised ahead of time. Dinner will consist of a light starter, main dish and dessert. Breakfast has an array of items such as fruit, eggs, yogurt, granola, local bread and jams, fruit juice and of course locally roasted coffee. On one of the days lunch will be a pack lunch of sandwiches, fruit and trail mix and on the other day it will be a lamb barbeque meal at the main estancia house. Beverages include a variety of Chilean red and white wines, local beers, locally distilled gin, whisky and pisco for those who want to try a Chilean spirit. We do not offer sodas. Please feel free to bring any additional beverages you may like that you do not see listed.  We do not supply plastic water bottles, you must bring your own reusable bottle to fill up with our fresh non-treated mountain water.

How to get there

MacLean Dock at Puerto Bories

https://estanciaspatagonia.com/meeting-point/

Day 1 starts at 09.00 AM at our dock dock located 10 minutes outside of Puerto Natales in Puerto Bories (see meeting point). We advise you to sleep in Puerto Natales before and after your visit to the estancia so you do not have any transportation issues. Do not plan to come back from the estancia and go straight to the airport. Please plan your flight out for at least one day after your visit.

Plan B - Weather Cancellation

Patagonia is famous for its strong winds which could cancel our Full Day tour if the captain says the fjord is too windy for the navigation. In that case we have a Plan B for our multi-day adventures. Guests will cross the channel in a local boat in front of Puerto Natales where it is much more protected than the open fjord. From there an off road truck will be waiting to bring you along the coast to the estancia. This could also be the case if the Full Day tour is canceled for your day leaving the estancia, hence why we advise not to book your flight out on the same day.

Cancellation Policy

Private Program reservations cancelled more than 60 days in advance will be fully refunded (100%). If the cancellation occurs between 30 and 59 days, a 50% refund will be given. However, if the reservation is cancelled less than 30 days before, no refund will be provided.

Totalmente recomendable.

If you are in the area, you need to do this! The people are amazing, the food (and wine) is unbelievably good, and the horse riding surreal. Our best day and experience so far in Patagonia. Thank you for an unforgettable day!

We had a wonderful time! The staff were amazing and the lamb meal was incredible! The whole experience was quite cool. The weather for horseback riding was a bit cold however if i would have dressed appropriately it would have been fine! Highly recommend!

We did the full day horseback riding, which was the highlight of our time in Patagonia. First, both Ian and Trisha were absolutely fantastic hosts. It's one thing to see beautiful landscapes, but when your guides are super personable, it makes a big difference. We enjoyed their company. Trisha, who knows the area like the back of her hand, was our guide for the day, and she took us through canyons and rivers, passing one mountain after the other. We could also do a little cantering and watch Trisha and her dogs herd wandering animals in the area. How grand is that? Plus, we loved having their dogs accompany us the entire time. And the horses? Possibly the calmest I've yet to meet. One even nudged me for a scratch. Midway through the day we stopped at a small dwelling for a bite, allowing letting us to relax for a bit and take it all in. The scenery is just stunning. If you love the idea of being in raw and remote wilderness, this is the place to be. End of day, Trisha showed us a small museum on the property which has interesting artifacts from the area, such as fossilized leaves and sharks' teeth. On top of the riding, Ian picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. During our drive we talked about all things Patagonia, and we appreciated him sharing his knowledge — which was quite interesting — about the area. Ian, Trisha, thanks again for a truly epic day.
