About this trip

Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.

James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

A Vision for Black Joy is a participant-driven retreat. Together we will reflect on personal and community centered visions and experiences of Black Joy.  By opening up a stimulating and fluid space for creativity and discussion, facilitators Christal Brown and Jaamil Olawale Kosoko aim to spark transformation, deepen the reservoir of joy and bridge the gaps in our personal narratives  through empowering community-led conversations, ambitious thinking and critical embodied engagement.

About this Retreat Leader

Christal Brown is the Chief Visioning Officer of Steps and Stages Coaching Facilitation and Consulting.  She blends her creativity, background in education, and spiritual insight into the practice of establishing, structuring, and implementing visions in the lives of individuals, institutions, relationships and  families.

As the Chief Visioning Officer of Steps and Stages “Coach Christal” leads transformational in-depth coaching programs that help clients achieve new heights of success, meaning, and spiritual aliveness. Brown has been featured on NPR’s The Moth, Ted X Middlebury, as well as various podcasts and conference stages across the U.S. and Zambia.

Brown describes herself as a person with a servant heart and a workaholic mind who uses her gifts as a bridge to connect to and be connected to others.

Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, (they/them) of Yoruba and Natchez descent is an award-winning artist, poet, and facilitator whose work in embodied poetics and performance has been presented internationally and is rooted in the intergenerational passage of Black feminist knowledge, queer theories of the body, and sacred rituals of intimacy & wellness as a means to craft perpetual modes of freedom, healing, and care where/when/however possible. Their new book, Black Body Amnesia: Poems & Other Speech Acts was released in Feb. 2022. Jaamil is the recipient of a MacDowell Fellowship, Pew Fellowship in the Arts, Princeton Arts Fellowship, 2019 Red Bull Writing Fellowship, and a 2017 Cave Canem Poetry Fellowship.

I had an amazing time with the Mwasi Global Community! The atmosphere is welcoming and the food is top tier. I loved my accommodations and the staff was helpful in every aspect. I definitely plan to return with my family.

This trip was pretty amazing. The Mwasi facility and family are outstanding. From the moment the car pulled onto the property and I was greeted by Jalaal and Noah and then presented with mint tea by Muhammad, I was hooked! The decor is alluring and captivating. Ms. T. Barnes has an eye for quality and the culture. The rooms are warm and inviting. They are extremely spacious with balconies and wonderful views. The staff; Tahnee, Bri and Fred are great. Warm, inviting, and helpful. I must say the food is an experience in and of itself. The presentation, variety and tastes will have you running to meal time. Tanesha made sure we had the full Moroccan experience; souk shopping, tuk-tuk rides, Hammam Turkish spa, camel trekking and going into the mountains was everything I hoped and imagined it would be. The people we met there, I know will become life-long friends. I can’t forget the Sovereign boutique onsite—I did some damage! I will definitely be returning and bringing others for the experience. Morocco is vivacious and a full experience. The people are kind and hospitable. My only negative would be the travel. I now know going forward I would have preferred to book my own travel directly. But you live and learn. No way did it make enough of an impact to make me give it less than five stars. See ya’ soon fam!

I had the pleasure of being a guest at Mwasi as a $1000 investor. From the moment you arrive at Mwasi you're made to feel like family. I was treated to excellent service, the freshest food and most delicious flavors I've ever tasted. The property is relaxing and inviting. The rooms were fabulously decorated . The rooftop views are spectacular. The camel ride was adventurous and so scenic. The restaurants and entertainment were first class. We had tribal dancers and music performed for us at Mwasi's rooftop restaurant .Mwasi is a home away from home. I highly recommend TaNesha Barnes Global for all your travel adventures. Lisa Raysor

The moment our driver pulled into the Mwasi resort, I felt the pressures and anxiety of New York City melt away. We were met by our most gracious hosts, Jalaal and Tanesha, who immediately made us feel at home. We were offered tea and were shown to our room. It was beautiful. It was inviting. It was serenity. The piece de resistance was a very welcoming balcony overlooking the scenic grounds below and the most beautiful pool. We were invited to join other guests for a sumptuous meal that evening. Being the foodie that I am, I would soon come to look forward to our breakfasts and dinners with great anticipation. Throughout our stay, Tanesha and Jalaal made us feel like royalty. The well thought out itinerary revealed the beauty, culture, and history of Marrakech. Every day was something to anticipate and enjoy. And when I wasn't out and about in Marrakech, I was enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the Mwasi grounds. The staff was nothing short of phenomenal. They were personable, accommodating and most gracious. My only regret was that my stay was far too short. I look forward to anther journey with Tanesha to any of the exciting places she frequents. I highly recommend Mwasi to anyone seeking a truly unforgettable experience. The memories from my week in Marrakech are forever etched in my soul, leaving me wanting for more. I look forward to my next Mwasi experience.

All I can say is stellar! That is the word that comes to mind when I think about T Barnes and her global travel experiences. I had the extreme pleasure of having my first T. Barnes experience in 2018 to Indonesia and have since curated a series of retreats with her to Morocco and soon Senegal. Imagine, taking six of the most prolific pastors in the world to Morocco for a T Barnes experience and it being everything you thought it would be and more! From class to expertise, Tanesha never fails. As a global retreat leader, professionalism is my utmost concern and she always executes with full working knowledge, honesty and care. While honoring the wishes of each retreat leader for a customized and unique experience. In fact, when stuck in Morocco due to border closures recently, she transformed my business trip into a fully immersive Moroccan experience! It was the best vacation I never had! Lol! I’m looking forward to 2022 and the 5 retreats I have booked with many more to come in 2023! Trust T.Barnes with your global travel experience today! Tisha Dixon -Williams

I have traveled with TaNesha Barnes. This sentence holds so much power, let me tell you why. TaNesha is NOT a travel agent, she literally curates an experience for your a group, based on where you are going. She arranges for the travel, the accomodations, the excursions but not touristy stuff, oh no...that would be too pedestrian, too ordinary, not SPECIAL, not intentional. Not only is TaNesha a brilliant organizer that cares for the safety, well being, and satisfaction of her guest, she does so as a consummate professional with an amazing price point. Always. All the time. Consistently. And without consideration of how "others" do it. She is communicates and is responsive. Provides receipts and payment plans. Let's face it, trusting someone with your money, to do the right thing, who gives you more than your money's worth...practically unheard of. Our 2021 New Year's Eve trip to Ghana was unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19 related issues. It was a Group trip so all decisions were made corporately. Leading up to the trip, we had emails and zoom calls and were so very excited, but then the outbreaks and shutdowns started up again. TaNesha gave us the information on what was going on with the airlines, the hotel, the climate of traveling during a pandemic. Some persons were feeling apprehensive (who wants to be stuck, for an indeterminate amount of time in another country if there is a lock-down?) and some were not concerned and were willing to go. Some people had jobs to come back to, some had children to care for...it was alot, but, TaNesha laid out the facts and had the group to make the decision. It was ours to make, we decided to postpone, which was for the best. Times are too uncertain to not know if you will be able to enter or leave a foreign country!! We are all paid up so when we do go, we just need to go to the airport and get on the plane!! The most difficult thing you will have to deal with, when dealing with TaNesha, is deciding which trip/experience you are going to take with her. TaNesha cares for you the way a concierge at a 5 diamond hotel, with your own personal butler would...except, she has developed relationships with people and organizations in ALL of the locales in which she travels and plans trips, before you get there so there are no mishaps. Even down to the meals and the T. Barnes Dinner Party (an amazing dinner for the trip participants). And if there does happen to be a situation, like Olivia Pope..."it's handled". Because TaNesha is not a travel agent and her name is on everything and her reputation on the line, she goes above and beyond, always, to make sure you are good. If I could, I would travel on a TaNesha Barnes experience everytime, she does it right!

I have been traveling with Tbarnes Global Lifestyle Retreats since 2018. As a single traveler, Tbarnes is a great communicator, detailed oriented and transparent. These are all of the qualities that I needed to feel secure. In 2021, I was supposed to celebrate New Years in Ghana. As a result of the new variant Omicron, Tbarnes immediately scheduled a zoom meeting to provide updates concerning flight cancellation, Covid protocols in Ghana and the what ifs scenarios. As a group, we collectively agreed to reschedule the trip to Ghana to 2022 in hopes that the pandemic will be under control and that we can enjoy the Motherland. As of today, Tbarnes continues to keep the group updated on the trip and any additional itinerary ideas. If you are single and is looking to travel the world, Tbarnes Global Lifestyle Retreats will suit your needs.
