About this trip

Escape with Andy Bertilrud to Lake Atitlan, a magical crater lake located in the heart of Guatemala. This retreat will provide you with the perfect opportunity to invest in yourself and celebrate your uniqueness, as well as explore a remote and sacred part of the world that will open your heart and your perspective to what could be.

What can you expect on this retreat?

Our journey begins with an overnight stay in the colonial city of Antigua, where our community will gather and connect for the first time. You'll have time to explore the unique architecture, rooftop bars & restaurants, and boutiques of Antigua prior to meeting up for a welcome dinner that evening. We highly recommend coming in a night early, if you can, to enjoy even more time in this city!

On day 2, we will make our way to Lomas de Tzununa, a lakefront hotel with a relaxing vibe, and stunning views of Lake Atitlan. Once there, you will have ample opportunity to experience the Mayan culture of Lake Atitlan, connect with nature, practice yoga in community, and create your own adventure.

Our time together will include daily, optional, yoga, meditation and breathwork classes with Andy, locally sourced meals, two included cultural and adventure-driven excursions, and plenty of time for you to relax and recharge amongst the stunning hillside grounds of Lomas de Tzununa and Lake Atitlan.  Our retreat center features an on-site pool, temazcal sauna, and restaurant / lounge area, all available for you to enjoy!

Outdoor lovers will have ample opportunity to partake in many activities throughout our week including: kayaking, hiking, stand up paddle boarding, horseback riding, zip lining, and paragliding, to name a few. Cultural activities include local cooking, weaving, and beading classes. Boat rides are readily available to visit neighboring Mayan villages where you can enjoy local foods, markets, and some of the best textile and arts shopping in Central America.

Come experience Guatemala with Andy and an amazing group of humans. This week will change your life, if you let it. ;)

Here's how you can get started...

About Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is a magical, 50 square mile, crater lake located in south-east Guatemala. At its deepest point, it’s over 1,100 feet! It’s approximately a 3.5 hour drive from Guatemala City and 2 hours from the beautiful colonial city of Antigua. Surrounded by majestic volcanoes and cultural Mayan villages, Lake Atitlan is the perfect place to disconnect, explore, and open your heart and perspective to what could be.

The climate at Lake Atitlan is also perfection, and incredibly complimentary for yoga classes, as well as outdoor adventuring. From January - April, daytime highs average a comfortable 75 - 80 degrees. Evenings are cooler, with temperatures in the low 60’s / high 50’s, perfect for sleeping. At a mile high in altitude, warm days of swimming and exploring are followed by cool nights in flannels by the fire, or relaxing in the wood-fired sauna.

Nature lovers will be overjoyed with the many outdoor activities available. From volcano hiking, to sunrise kayak and stand-up paddle boarding, to horseback mountain rides and zip lining tours, there’s ample opportunity to connect with and enjoy this incredible land.

When you aren’t immersing yourself in nature, there’s plenty of Mayan Culture to soak in! Lake Atitlan is surrounded by several towns, all accessible via public and private boat, each unique and worth exploring. Don’t miss out on textile shopping in San Juan, the people watching in Panajachel, cliff diving in San Marcos or the restaurant and bar scene in San Pedro.

What a truly stress free trip. Grace and Alex were excellent with anticipating needs, from arranging to have coffee purchased in one town delivered to our hotel to making our trips dreams come true sorting a farm visiting, where a friend of the retreat group was volunteering at. This above and beyond care to execute an excursion not in their typical menu of activities was amazing. Alex even indulged us in a trip to his local town's hot springs after a few of us had researched them. Grace was a transit wizard always having boats and vans booked for us when needed.

Panama is an exotic and a beautiful country. Local people are kind and helpful. Group of people we were traveling with are old friends that made this trip easy and pleasant. As per accommodation, I would recommend to take care of cockroaches that appeared in our room, and especially bathroom, every night. I was very concerned not to bring them home. Also, room for three people, ideally, could be bigger size.

Lovely location. The hosts Augusto and Anita were top notch and the chef Nicole was phenomenal. The casitas were nice but no air conditioning was challenging during the day as it got quite humid. There were cockroaches in the casita at night but we were in the middle of the jungle so it was to be expected. I wish more excursions were included in the package given the price but the additional costs were reasonable. The massage therapist Maria was phenomenal and reasonably priced for her fantastic massages. The food was yummy, not fancy but ample portions unlike in the Azores property.

This trip reminded me that, in the end, it’s all about the people. Kevin and the Sol Seed team brought everyone together with a perfect balance of organization and laid-back energy. We had the chance to immerse ourselves in the culture, and the team made made sure our dollars went back into the community. I really appreciated that level of intentionality from the organizers.

This was one of the best trips of my life! The accommodations, excursions, food and people were truly delightful. I was so impressed by how well it was organized. I can’t wait to go on another adventure!
