Fancy cycling along the Danube into Vienna ?
Well the good news is thats how this tour finishes...... however, you have to cycle from Nuremburg first. Thats down along the German Czech border and into Austria.
Its a small range of mountains running down this border, and is called the Bohemian Forest. The Bohemian Forest, known in Czech as Šumava (pronounced [ˈʃumava] ⓘ) and in German as Böhmerwald, is a low mountain range in Central Europe. Geographically, the mountains extend from Plzeň Region and the South Bohemian Region in the Czech Republic to Austria and Bavaria in Germany, and form the highest truncated uplands of the Bohemian Massif, up to 50 km wide. They create a natural border between the Czech Republic on one side and Austria and Germany on the other.
Thats what we will be cycling along and through. It includes the Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald on the German side (A protected area of forested mountains containing rare European wolves, brown bears & lynx). While in Czech there is the Šumava National Park.
The area is one of heavily forested mountains with average heights of 800–1,400 metres. The range is one of the oldest in Europe, and its mountains are eroded into round forms with few rocky parts..... making for easy cycling......
PLUS the Danube is flat and slow moving...so it won't be that tough a tour...... :-)
This is a small hotel/B&B based holiday. Prices are based on sharing in twin rooms.
Single Supplement for this tour is £450. If opting to share, this must be with a friend or partner. If no one else is prepared to share with someone wanting a twin room, then the single supplement is payable. Ideally you should sign up with a friend to enable you to share a twin room. ACT is reluctant to allow strangers to share a twin room.
Fly into Nuremberg, and cycle into this area of the Bohemian Forest.
Hopefully includiing both of the National Park areas on the German and Czech sides, before cycling into Austria. The mountains continue in Austria also.
Eventually we find our way down to the Danube at the end of our penultimate day , and then following this magnificent river, through the Jauerling Wachau Nature Park, and onto Vienna.
While Vienna is well known, the rest of the tour is an opportunity to cycle through another beautiful, yet little known area of Europe, the Bohemian Forest along the German, Czech and Austrian borders.
