Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK), and Wally Romanes (NZ) made the first climbed of Ama Dablam via the Southwest Ridge on 13 March 1961. They were well acclimated to the altitude after wintering at 5800m near the base of the peak as part of the 1960-61 Silver Hut scientific expedition led by Sir Edmund Hillary. Climbing Everest under the professional guidance of Mountain Magic Treks is considered more convenient than climbing Ama Dablam expedition.
