IDENTIFICATION ~ A passport valid for 6 months beyond the tour start date is required.
ALTITUDE ~ Guatemala City: 4,921 ft ~ Antigua: 5,069 ft ~ Lake Atitlán: 5,125 ft
WEATHER ~ Because both Antigua and Lake Atitlán are in the mountains, their weather and temperatures are moderate year round. Typical July daytime temperatures are in the lower 80s, nights in the low 60s. For the Tikal extension, we will be visiting the lowland jungle on the Caribbean side of Guatemala. The weather in the jungle can be described as warm and muggy. Flores will be breezier and less muggy. Temperatures will range from daily highs around 89f to lows around 75f. Because it is the jungle, there are good chances of rain.
PHYSICAL EXERTION ~ Moderate Exertion (3 of 5) – This tour requires some physical agility to be able to get in and out of the small taxi boats as they bob up and down in the waves. It also requires some stamina to walk at a leisurely pace on hilly cobblestone streets for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. There are opportunities for more strenuous hikes, mountain climbing experiences, and swimming for those interested. Please note the Tikal extension is slightly more physically demanding than the main tour, including lots of climbing without rails and walking on dirt paths.
MEDICAL FACILITIES ~ During most of the tour, major medical facilities will be more than two hours away. For the optional extension to Tikal, emergency services are nonexistent and basic services are rudimentary.
