Trekkers Wanted!

Words from the group

"We are from Minneapolis MN, US.  We came late to hiking and did not find the love of mountains until our late 30s and early 40s.  Our first hike was an attempt at day-hiking Mount Whitney from Portal to summit and back (22mi).  We made it to trail crest and saw clouds forming and turned back.  Of course we got back down the 100 switchbacks and the weather cleared.  We have regretted that decision since, and swore never to listen to trail gossip again.

Since then we were hooked, and have backpacked multiple trips of at least five days on the Colorado Trail, John Muir Trail, Maroon Bells, and Wind River Range (Cirque du Towers.)

We are used to taking everything we need on our backs.  Slack-packing will be a new experience.  Going to feel a bit like glamping, but for Salkantay, we'll take it.

Our son joined us on our first Mount Whitney attempt 7 years ago, and recently he and his fiance joined us on our 6 day foray in the Wind River Range in Wyoming.  It was her first trip into the back country with full pack.  She was a trooper, multiple 1500ft climbs up and over passes with some brutal weather (60-70mph wind gusts and hail) and loved it. :)

While we have some experience, we are very well aware of type 2 vs type 3 fun.  We have both been in the suck of type 3 and love to elevate it back to 2 because we see the slump and cheer each other on.  Embrace the challenge."

We enjoyed the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu visit sooo much. Dont get me wrong, its a though hike, but the experience abd view were totally worth it. Our guide Arturo was exceptional in all aspects. He was friendly, active listerer and considerate to accommodate the needs of our kids and everyone in the trek. Big shoes to fill for any future trek guide...

We had an amazing time. The communication we received prior to the trip was excellent and the zoom meeting with our guide a few days before was invaluable. Our guide Aurora was great - knowledgeable , friendly, kind and encouraging. He let us lead the hike so we were able to go at our own pace which was appreciated. The train ride, the hotel in Aguas Calientes and of course Macchu Picchu were all beyond our expectations. Thank you so much.

Forget about overtourism, live authentic experiences, get in touch with history and traditions, admire postcard landscapes and associate your passage with a positive impact on the territory: all this was possible thanks to the perfect organization of Apus Peru. Warmly welcomed from the briefing in the hotel, we faced the clean-up trek of Huchuy Qosqo with a final visit to Machu Picchu in the best possible conditions. Cutting-edge equipment (tents, sleeping bags and every other item made available are first-rate), a "magical" chef, capable of expertly preparing the most disparate dishes, always tasty and (sometimes almost too) abundant, perfectly organized and fast arrieros, attention and care for details (from the tent bathroom to the careful booking of hotels and restaurants in the part of the visit to Machu Picchu) and, above all, a friendly, cheerful, scrupulous and very competent guide, made our experience unforgettable. If you are looking for "off the main path" adventures, you care about environmental issues (thanks to the clean-up option we got a discount and, above all, collected a lot of garbage along the way, mainly plastic objects) and you want to face the very crowded (but still stable) Machu Picchu in the best conditions, we recommend you rely on Apus Peru, the organizers Ingrid and Lois and our guide William for a trip that you will carry in your heart forever.

If you are seeking a truly exceptional journey through Peru, one that bypasses the crowds and unveils hidden gems off the beaten path, then Apus Peru is your perfect match. Apus and their entire team orchestrated an extraordinary experience that made our first visit to Peru unforgettable. We were especially delighted by our outstanding guide, Arturo. His depth of knowledge, meticulous attention to the itinerary, and vibrant personality made each day an absolute pleasure. Our driver was equally delightful—punctual, charming, and always ready for us with a warm smile. While some of the trekking equipment showed signs of wear and could benefit from an update, this minor issue did not detract from our overall experience. In fact, it is easily remedied and hardly a blemish on what was otherwise a flawless adventure. All in all, our time with Apus was superb, and I would not hesitate to use their services again or to recommend them to anyone seeking a unique and memorable Peruvian adventure. Serena M.

The Ausangate trekking with Apus Peru The Ausangate trekking was breathtaking in every way! To hike at an altitude of around 5000m and camp in frigid temperature is not an easy feat but it was worth it. The majesty of the glacier was simply amazing. Also, I have never dreamed of seeing the Milky Way so clearly. Our group of four was assisted by Aggripino, Miguel and Juan, three hard working muleteers. Leandro, our cook, fed us great food fit for the trekking. Finally, our awesome guide Arturo was very attentive and knowledgeable. A unique experience.
