About this trip

Fall may be our favorite time of year in Umbria, in large part because of two major harvests that take place — grapes and olives. This 8-day tour gives you a chance to harvest one or the other and see and taste the literal fruits of your labors. Seasonal highlights include:

  • Participating in the vendemmia (grape harvest) or raccolta delle olivi (olive harvest)
  • Enjoying a bountiful lunch for the hard-working harvesters, prepared by Franca
  • Helping press the grapes, or a trip to the oil mill to watch the olives be pressed
  • Sampling seasonal fare, like porcini mushrooms, chestnuts, and more

What's included?

From the moment you join our tour, we take care of everything, including:

  • Rome airport pick up/drop off, or pick up/drop off at Orvieto train station
  • 7 nights accommodation with breakfast
  • Almost all meals and wine, except where indicated
  • Ample snacks on the nights we don’t do dinner
  • Local transportation via minibus with driver
  • Private dinners and tastings and a cooking lesson
  • Private tours
  • Lots of small, special moments and memories

What's not included?

  • Airfare or train fare to or within Italy
  • Travel insurance (strongly recommended)
  • Tips for drivers and guides
  • Optional meals and drinks not included in the tour itinerary
  • Souvenirs and incidentals

What a wonderful experience! Four ladies, lots of pasta AND sauce making, tiramisu. Learned a lot from a cooking perspective and our dishes turned out GREAT, but more importantly was the joy we felt at the end of the day. We felt so blessed and were ready to solve world peace! Allow several hours, and time to take in Allerona as well. Liz and Paolo were wonderful hosts and we wish them well in their endeavors with their guesthouse to open in fall 2025. A great day; we are already contemplating a repeat as there is more to see and experience!

Magical! Working with Liz and her team was perfection. Liz understood we wanted an authentic local experience and worked hard to deliver. She was highly communicative leading up to our travels and throughout our time in Umbria. We were able to spend time with a very lovely local expert Lucianna who shared with us her passion and knowledge of Orvieto. She also provided great connections for lunch and dinner spots. The capstone of the experience was our day with The Nonnas in Allerona. I hope we were good students and houseguests! We learned how to make an authentic Italian meal, drank good wine and, the best of all, were able to enjoy our handmade meal with her big Italian family! It was a brilliant surprise when the family showed up, with homemade wine, and blessed our efforts. This was an experience I will never forget! Special thank you to Kelly Lewis at Damesly for making the connection for us.
