On this cultural and historical tour, you will see the former slave castle at Cape Coast and receive your African name at a traditional ceremony.

Shop at the Makola Market, bathe in Boti Falls, create authentic fabric in your Adinkra cloth stamping class and take a breathtaking walk across the rain forest Kakum Canopy.  Towards the end of  your trip, experience the Chale Wote Arts festival and close with a few relaxing trips to Accra’s beaches.

We had a Fantastic time and our guides in Tanzania, Issac and Ezekiel, were fantastic guides for our safari, and Abdallah and Aziza were great guides in Zanzibar. They were knowledgeable, patient and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for better guides. The Kahawa House and the Lodge were great!!! The Nguwi Dreams was Ok compared to the first 2. The Stephanie Baker 50th Birthday tour was nothing short of amazing. My husband, Carlton Way and I, Edith (Edie) Way were very pleased. The group will cherish this experience for a lifetime. The "welcome home" and communing with our "Original" people will last a lifetime. Thanks so much also to Justa and Tiffanie. Thank you, Carlton & Edie Way.

I traveled with Away to Africa for my second time in December 2023, that time to Nigeria. Some highlights of the trip included attending streetwear festival Street Souk and visiting Nike Art Gallery, Lekki Conservation Centre, Kalakuta Museum, Badagry, and Olumo Rock and the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta. I stayed at the Lagos Continental, a five-star hotel that in the past hosted the continental premiere of Black Panther 2. The best restaurant I went to is called 343 Degrees North, a Nigerian-South Asian fusion cuisine spot. There were a few challenges on the trip—traffic impacted the itinerary (that’s a given in Lagos); there was a cash shortage in the country at the time that made it difficult to exchange currency, plus I should have brought USD denominations of $50 or $100 instead of $20; we didn’t have a cooler of cold water bottles in the vehicle; and airport staff could have been more helpful and less troublesome, but overall it was a great and enjoyable introduction to Naija 🇳🇬 Shout out to my tour guide Motley!

Wow. This has been #1 on my bucket list since I was a small child. Choosing to book with Away to Africa helped make my dreams a reality! As for my experience, it was hands down the best time of life. I cried tears of joy every day, and every day was better than the last- from exploring Nairobi, to traveling through the Great Rift Valley to see Maasai Mara and the incredible wildlife, to the beautiful coastal region for the Lamu Yoga Festival. Away to Africa staff were available every step of the way, my guides were knowledgeable and pleasant to spend time with, and the staff at every stop were welcoming and friendly. I couldn't have planned this trip better myself, and have fallen in love with the country, the people, and the spirit. If you haven't been and are looking to change your life, choose Away to Africa.
