Set and guided by nature’s rhythm, the five elements, and the brilliance of an Island on all of its offerings, from breath-taking views, volcanic beaches, and nature hikes, from dipping in natural hot springs and sunset trips, to exploring Ponta Delgada, the island’s main town. Embark on a transformative yoga journey that goes beyond the mat, beyond the practice, and beyond what meets the eye.
Following our grand success in Croatia in 2024, we are, once again teaming up to create magic: Yuval Samburski of UVYoga, in collaboration with Purple Aura Retreats, you waited patiently, and we are here! We will stay in a newly constructed and well designed boutique hotel in Ponta Delgada (best way to explore the town!) this retreat will take you to the heart of nature, to enjoy the beauty and grandour of São Miguel Island in the Azores, where the five elements come alive in spectacular ways:
We’ve chosen São Miguel—the largest and most diverse island among the Azores' nine-island archipelago—as our home base! (Fun fact: It’s just a 5-hour direct flight from New York or Boston!)
Nestled in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, São Miguel offers a unique sense of remoteness, where time seems to follow its own rhythm (this is no joke – come and feel this for yourself!)
Here, you won’t find flashy billboards or commercial distractions—just nature in its purest form. It’s a place where your body and mind naturally slow down, allowing you to fully unwind and recharge.
Our retreat will be centered in Ponta Delgada, the island’s charming capital town.
With its cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and waterfront promenades, Ponta Delgada combines European urban charm with the serenity of the ocean and the cliffs around. Spend your free days exploring local markets and churches, picturesque stores, bars cafes, pineapple plantations (aham, pineapple plantations in the capital?? Wait to learn all about its production and amazing sweet taste!), all while feeling the heartbeat of the Atlantic. Yup! We are staying in a new boutique hotel, right in town. You will be able to explore so much by foot. Island freedom is found!
This 7-night, 8-day retreat is an invitation to reconnect with yourself, nature and culture. Here’s how we’ll explore the elements together:
Guided Activities:
(SIDE NOTE! No, this isn’t Bali—it’s the Azores, and it’s an experience you’ll never forget! 😊)
Daily Yoga & Dance Practices
Once to twice a day, practice yoga, Pranayama, dance and movement in serene settings that connect you to yourself, nature and the elements. From a tranquil studio in the heart of Ponta Delgada to outdoor sessions in a lush banana plantation, each practice is designed to ground, energize, and inspire you. Sound Healing will also be offered!
Unstructured Exploration
You will also have enough free time to explore São Miguel’s capital town, Ponta Delgada, at your own pace. Stroll along the coastal promenade, visit pineapple plantations, browse the farmer’s market, or discover local cheese shops like the famous “King of Cheese.” Cute shops, bars and restaurants, as well are plenty for you to explore, and our hotel’s pool will be in your own back yard for to jump un at any time.
Treatments and Healing
Speaking of our boutique hotel, massages and treatments will be available for you to book, for some extra healing and support your journey.
This luxurious boutique hotel, newly opened last year, is a sanctuary near the heart of Ponta Delgada. Our cozy retreat home, features 16 beautifully designed rooms, each offering modern amenities like private bathrooms, minibars, balconies or gradens (only 2 rooms have private gardens (grab yours!) with views of the surrounding banana plantation, our pool, or the town.
The property includes a private banana plantation right next to our pool, creating a serene atmosphere for our entire stay. Our yoga studio is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel, immersing us in the local vibe as we journey to our daily practice. Outdoor yoga sessions in the banana plantation add yet another special connection to nature.
Staying in Ponta Delgada means you’ll have easy access to the city’s historic streets, vibrant markets, and local eateries during your free time. You can just walk outside!

Why travel to the Azores?
The Azores offer a truly unique experience, being situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This remote location creates a distinct sense of calm and detachment from the fast-paced world, while nature’s glory is extremely unique. Time seems to flow differently here, helping your body and mind to completely unwind. The absence of advertising and overwhelming modern distractions allows you to reconnect with nature on a deeper level.
The Azores are also rich in culture and traditions, blending Portuguese heritage with a unique island lifestyle. From volcanic landscapes to stunning coastal views, you'll find the Azores offer pristine beauty that feels untouched by time. All whilst European culture is weaved in to create an experience like no other. Highlights include local delicacies like fresh seafood and cheese, vibrant festivals, traditional Azorean music, and architecture that showcases the region's history. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation and cultural discovery.
How were the Azores formed?
The Azores were born millions of years ago through intense volcanic activity beneath the ocean. These eruptions pushed molten lava upward, forming a chain of islands that now make up this incredible archipelago. Over time, erosion and additional volcanic activity shaped the islands into their current landscapes, featuring lush greenery, dramatic cliffs, calderas, and thermal springs. The Azores sit on the junction of three tectonic plates, which is why their geology remains a source of fascination for scientists and visitors alike.
Is it safe to hike around the volcanoes?
Absolutely! The Azores are known for their well-maintained and clearly marked hiking trails, ensuring safety for all visitors. These paths allow you to explore breathtaking volcanic landscapes, from crater lakes to hot springs, without any unnecessary risks. Local guides and information boards provide extra assurance if you're new to hiking around volcanic areas.
When was the last volcanic eruption in the Azores?
The most recent volcanic eruption occurred in 1957 on the island of Faial, forming the Capelinhos Volcano. This event left a lasting mark on the island's landscape, creating a surreal, almost lunar environment worth visiting. São Miguel, the island where most of our activities take place, has dormant volcanoes, ensuring a safe yet awe-inspiring exploration.
What’s the weather like in October?
