SALTA, QUEBRADA DE HUMAHUACA, SALINAS GRANDES, JUJUY

3 nights accommodation in shared dorm + airport or bus station pickup and drop off + excursion to Purmamarca, Salinas Grandes and Quebrada de Humahuaca.

Day 1: Salta

Arrival in Salta. Transfer to hostel and check in. Free day to walk around this beautiful colonial city. Check its museums, climb the San Bernardo Hill and try to go to a “peña” at night!

DAY 2:  Salta - Purmamarca

Breakfast.

7.30hs - Pick up from the hostel for the Salt Flats/Purmamarca excursion (full day): you’ll wind along the Rio Grande and climb through the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Get a glimpse of local life as you pass through the sleepy villages and enjoy plenty of stops to take in the views and snap photos. Arrive in Purmamarca, famous for its handicrafts market and the Hill of Seven Colors. Then journey on through the Humahuaca gorge, driving along the Cuesta de Lipan, and jump out to take photos as you climb to a height of 4,150 metres. After the drive, arrive at the Salinas Grandes. You’ll have free time to explore the salt flats before heading back to Purmamarca and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Browse the market stalls for handcrafted souvenirs, before the return journey to your accommodation.

DAY 3: Salta - Humahuaca

Breakfast.

9.00hs - Pick up from the hostel for the Humahuaca full day excursion: you will leave Salta and head north passing the small towns of Tumbaya, Purmamarca, Maimará, Tilcara and Uquía. In Purmamarca, you will stop to see the famous Seven Colour Hill and their market. In Tilcara, you visit the Pucará (fortress) and the Archeological Museum, and in Uquía you stop to admire the local church. But it’s in Humahuaca where you’ll have the longest stop to really take in the local pace, the typical colonial architecture and the delicious food. Arrival in Salta around 8pm.

Optional - Tour to the Hornocal Hills: to see the colours of the hills it is best to arrive in the afternoon/evening.

Day 4: Salta

Breakfast. Check out and transfer to the airport. End of services.
