About this trip

The cruise departs from La Paz, the gateway to the Sea of Cortez, heading north to the islands of Espiritu Santo, Isla San Francisco and Isla San Jose.  Snorkel in the crystal-clear blue waters chocked full of undersea life, kayak to observe the coastal marine life, hike the desert islands and learn about the geology, flora and fauna, and visit areas for up-close encounters with an array of marine animals. While on the ship you can enjoy the tri-deck levels with spacious and comfortable outdoor lounging areas, dining, sunbathing and wildlife viewing. Allow the crew to spoil you with the highest standard of comfort, service, and safety, including beautifully chef-prepared meals, drinks, and snacks.

Your hotel stays include a gray whale watching day trip at the beginning and a free day to explore La Paz afterward the cruise.

It is not about the destination, it's about where you are in the living moment!

What to Expect – The expedition is rated as suitable for beginners to moderately experienced individuals. You should be comfortable walking or standing for short periods, and able to participate in several activities on any given day. You are required to have basic swimming skills and some experience snorkelling, if you choose to swim or snorkel. Hikes range from 1 – 2 hours on different terrain in warm and humid conditions. You are welcome to opt out of any activity you choose and when possible an alternate activity will be offered. Experience a blend of adventure travel, education and cultural interaction while exploring the natural history of the marine environment. An unforgettable journey of discovery!

Planned Activities – With white sandy beaches and clear blue turquoise waters, enjoy daily swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, and/or simply relaxing on the beach. Cocktails and snacks are available under the shade of our beach canopy. Wildlife encounters typically include whales, dolphins, sea lions, mobula rays and a stunning array of coastal birds. Enjoy a nature hike to explore the flora and fauna of the desert islands. During the trip, evening stargazing is the perfect time to witness the Blood Moon total lunar eclipse on Mar. 13 (clear skies required). Don't forget to update your friends and family on your adventures with the onboard WiFi. Share your social media photos while enjoying a margarita on the upper deck with the setting sun in the backdrop.

Our expedition begins with a 2 night stay at the Hotel Catedral in La Paz. During this time a day trip, across the peninsula by van, for 3 - 4 hours of Gray Whale Watching in Magdalena Bay. After the cruise, enjoy a 2-night stay, again at the Hotel Catedral with day 7 for you to enjoy at your leisure.

Reviews

We enjoyed an authentic rancho/farm experience in the beautiful mountain preserve of Sierra La Laguna. Doña Maria Luz’s home cooked meals were delicious. We learned leather making with Papa and helped Rogelio (as best we could) to milk the cows and gather the fresh vegetables we ate from the garden and every sort of fruit tree you can imagine. Short hikes to old pictographs and bird watching also kept us busy. It’s a perfect trip for a family or anyone wishing to learn a little better about the real Mexico away from resorts

THIS ADVENTURE WAS THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME. EVEN THOUGH WE HAIL FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WHERE ORCAS AND MIGRATING WHALES ARE A FACT OF LIFE (BUT NOT EVER TAKEN FOR GRANTED) , BEING ABLE TO SEE THESE MAGNIFCENT CREATURES UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WAS BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS. WE WERE A GROUP OF 4 BEING FRIENDS FOR DECADES SO TO SHARE THE EXCITMENT TOGETHER WAS A MEMORY CREATING EVENT FOR CERTAIN. LELA WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST IN SHARING HER KNOWLEDGE AND CHEERFULLY AND PATIENTLY ANSWERING A CONSTANT BARRAGE OF QUESTIONS. WE LIVE IN ELIAS CALLES (NEAR TODOS SANTOS) ENABLING US TO DRIVE TO LAPAZ FOR THE PICKUP POINT THE MORNING OF THE EXCURSION. ANOTHER POINT THAT IMPRESSED US WAS THE CAREFUL AND CONSIDERATE DEAMEANOR OF OUR PANGA TO NOT 'HOUND' THE WHALES, AS WE HAVE SEEN OTHER PANGA OPERATORS DO WITH A DIFFERENT OUTFIT. BREAKFAST ON THE RUN, WIITH OUR FIRST INTRODUCTION TO AVENA, A WARM OATMEAL BEVERAGE, AND WATCHING THE SUNRISE WAS A VALUE ADD. LUNCH POST WHALE WATCH ON THE BEACH WITH FRESH SHRIMP TACOS WAS THE ULTIMATE END TO A WONDERFUL DAY. CANT HEAP ENOUGH ACCOLADES ON THIS OUTFIT....EVERY PART OF OUR EXPERIENCE WAS TOP DRAWER. LELA EXUDES THE QUALITIES OF A PASSIONATE EDUCATOR.

Hi Stephanie, Thank you. For the lovely review. I am so happy your experience has left you with memories you will soon not forget. Having the flexibility to wait a day or two for the ideal weather conditions makes the trip as magical as the whales. I will have the pictures of your experience to you this week to share with the friends that joined you on the excursion. It was wonderful to meet the four of you and we are here if you would like to continue your adventures with Panterra. Kindest Regards, Lela
