About this trip

Join our Spring in the Air Cat Charity Walk, to help raise funds for the Mr No Ears Cat Haven's external project "Silves Street Cats".

Cheryl and Graham are leading a walk to help raise funds for the Mr No Ears Cat Haven’s external project “Silves Street Cats” charity. Donations received on the day, will go towards organising adoptions and taking care of cats that can’t be re-homed due to age and disability.

The name of the charity’s project, Mr No Ears Cat Haven, was named after a white cat in Albufeira that had his ears removed due to cancer. They received money from sponsors all over the world and here in Portugal to make this operation possible.

The charity is more like a Hospice as they look after many cats that suffer serious illnesses and injuries. They love them and provide a safe and happy environment for the cats.

Cat Charity Walk
Walking Details

The out-and-back walk, starting from Figs on the Funcho, will follow the path along the river Funcho and pass through pine and cork forests before reaching the church perched on the hill. The hill top has bucolic vistas of the Algarve’s rural countryside where cattle are raised and animals hunted. The walking route is shared with the shepherd and as it is the lambing season we may meet his flock of sheep and cute lambs.

Walking distance is approximately 6km and will take about 1 hour to complete. This is a moderately easy walk except for the 180 meter incline that leads up to the church, however, you can opt not to do it and wait for the walking group to return. Also there is the incline, on your return, just before reaching the entrance to the road that leads to our location, Figs on the Funcho.

Coffee/tea and cake will be served after the walk and you will have an opportunity to make new friends and connections face-to-face.

I really enjoyed this afternoon. Delicious food and interesting information on nutrition. I have already applied some tips from Naomi and I have made two of those delicious recipes from Graham. Nice also to admire your beautiful venue. I will be back soon.

I had a fantastic time at the "Portuguese Spice Route: A Brunch Cooking Workshop en-route to India" at Figs on the Funcho, recently. Graham and Cheryl were excellent hosts, and the workshop was well-organized, interactive, and a lot of fun. The hands-on experience was great, with everyone getting involved in the cooking process. Our hosts made sure we all had the chance to participate, whether it was chopping, mixing spices, or cooking, which really brought the group together and made it feel like a shared culinary adventure. We learned how to prepare a range of dishes that highlighted flavours from the spice route—each with the unique spices and flavours from the regions along the historic spice route, from Portugal to India. The recipe selection was a perfect way to showcase the spices and ingredients from each region, and the hosts made everything easy to follow. I loved how approachable the dishes were—easy for recreating at home but still packed with rich, authentic flavours. The setting was another highlight. Their home and property are absolutely beautiful, and dining outside in the warm autumn afternoon with a view of the valley made the meal even more enjoyable. Sharing the dishes we all helped prepare while taking in the scenery was the perfect end to the workshop. I highly recommend this experience. Whether you're an experienced cook or just looking to try something new, it's a fun and memorable way to spend the day!
