Itinerary

Day 1
GUIDED LUANG PRABANG CITY TOUR BY BIKE (L)

We’ll start by picking up the bikes at our workshop, where we maintain the best fleet of mountain bikes in town. After a safety introduction, we’ll set off to visit the Morning Market, a lively street where locals stock up on all sort of interesting supplies, from colorful vegetables to live frogs.

Next, we’ll step from the energy of the market into the serene calm of one of the city’s most sumptuous monasteries, Wat Mai, and then to the former King's Palace – now the National Museum – where you’ll witness the history and present life of Luang Prabang. From there, we will bike to the beautiful and ancient Wat Xieng Thong temple, with its spectacular low sweeping roof, Luang Prabang’s most celebrated monastery.

After a break for lunch, we’ll visit either the UXO museum* (it portrays the devastation that Laos continues to suffer as a result of the Second Indochina War), or shop for local crafts at Ock Pop Tok (which brings the fascinating world of traditional Lao handicrafts alive for visitors).

Onward we'll explore the 16th century Wat Visoun temple, known for its enormous squat stupa and its collection of old gilded “Calling for the Rain“ Buddhas. We will finish the day at the extraordinary Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center**, the only independent resource center in Laos dedicated to the country's many and diverse ethnic groups.

*The Unexploded Ordnance Museum (UXO Museum) is open M-F 8am-12 and 1-4. Closed Sat and Sunday.

** The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center is open Tuesday – Sunday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

MEETING POINT: at 08:20 at Tiger Trail Sales office on Sisavangvong Road (close to National Museum).

Reviews

We were a group of 10 avid cyclists (MTB / Gravel) for whom Tiger Trails customised a varied point to point itinerary over 6 days early Oct north of Luang Prabang. Very good value. Advance organisation and communication was excellent. The team from Tiger Trails (drivers / riders) were exceptional people who, under some trying circumstances brought about by weather damaged routes, made a plan for every hurdle. Nothing was too much for them. Joyous, happy, ever smiling people and so willing to share their insights of their beautiful country. On the organisational part, nothing was a big issue, including last minute ticket bookings, hotel changes, and bike transfers. We'd definitely ask them to be of service again. Note: we seemed to be their first real group of riders as opposed to tourists using bicycles. Thus mechanic services are not offered and guides well prepared for 'touring' but possibly not as well equipped (kit / bikes) for hard riding. Despite this, the guys were amazing. Thank you to all at Tiger Trails
