This tour is set during the world-famous sakura - or cherry blossom - time! In Tokyo we visit shrines, temples, and shopping centers; learn a traditional craft; watch a fun puppet show; and hang out with a group of Japanese English teachers. In the spa town of Hakone, we travel by train, cable car, funicular, and ‘pirate’ ship; see glittering crystal trees at the Venetian glass museum; enjoy delicious kaiseki dinners; walk among the whimsical sculptures of the Open-Air Museum; and soak in a natural hot spring. In Kyoto, we learn first-hand how to wear a kimono; stroll through thousands of scarlet Torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, and experience the quiet of the bamboo forest in morning. In Hiroshima, we pay our respects at the Peace Park and Museum. We also visit nearby Miajima Island where we meet the local deer and take selfies with the famous Floating Tori Gate. In Osaka, we visit a chocolate café to enjoy 'Satan Cake' (i.e. devil's food cake with an unfortunate translation), have a calligraphy lesson; and find out why this vibrant city is the Kitchen of Japan!

When you arrive, you will be picked up and driven to our hotel in Tokyo. Details of your transfer to the hotel will be given to you before the trip. We will meet at the hotel in late morning. From there, it's a short walk to Ueno Park to view the cherry blossoms and have lunch. We will visit Shibuya (to experience the famous Shibuya Scramble) and have dinner in a unique tucked-away restaurant. Then, we head back to the hotel (and possibly a dip in the onsen?) and make an early night of it.
Meal included: dinner.
