PHYSICAL EXERTION ~ Moderately High Exertion (4 of 5) – This tour consists of casual walking on uneven cobblestone streets with hills. To take full advantage of some of the sites, tourists will need to climb multiple flights of steps (at a slow pace). Some excursions, such as the waterfalls and the national park, have options that range from casual relaxing visits with limited climbing to intense hiking and climbing experiences. We spend some time traveling by van over dusty, bumpy roads – those prone to motion sickness or dust allergies may want to bring medication.
Saturday, Nov 8 – Travel/Arrival day – the only scheduled event this day is our welcome dinner.
Sunday, Nov 9 – Monday, Nov 17 we will travel through the Chiapas highlands via van, exploring the folk arts, fine arts, unique cultures, and an awe-inspiring range of natural beauty. We will stay two of these nights in Comitán and the remainder in San Cristóbal de las Casas. The itinerary of experiences includes:
• Walking tours of multiple colonial towns
• Visits with artisans working in textiles, ceramics, jewelry, and basket weaving as well as studios of contemporary painters
• Amazing waterfalls of Cascadas el Chiflón with opportunities for hiking and zip-lining
