About this trip

Antisana Volcano (5.758 m / 18,891 ft) calls the real mountaineer in us - remote, wild, beautiful & challenging. Being part of the Oriental Andean Range, the climate is less stable and the conditions often more challenging. On the way to the huge summit plateau, we negotiate many crevasses and even small climbs are part of it. Definitely not for everyone - join us if you are prepared!

The climb has some technical parts and requires good fitness as well as a good level of frustration tolerance, as conditions can be tricky there, and of course previous glacier travel experience.

Another very important point is proper acclimatization. To really enjoy the climb, we recommend at least 4 days of preparation, including hikes in altitude and steadily increasing your sleeping altitude if possible.

Itinerary

Antisana Volcano
one of Ecuador's wild beauties

DAY 1 + 2

Pick up in Quito at approx. 10.30 am, drive towards Pintag and Antisana National Park. We stop for lunch on the way or have a picknick and continue then to the check in of Antisana National Park. Afterwards (if conditions are favorable) we drive up to the parking lot, where we camp as well. In case the access is tricky, we'll have to hike up and set our camp up at the sector "La Virgen" at approx. 4500 m / 14760 ft. We have an early dinner and rest at our remote camp site and ideally admire the sun set over Cotopaxi, just opposite of us. Wake up around midnight, small snack and start of the hike to the summit of ANTISANA (5.758 m / 18,891 ft), which takes approximately 6 - 8 h. After enjoying hopefully wonderful views at the summit we descend (approx. 3 - 4 hours to the camp), pack our camp and return to Quito.

It was an amazing trip. Mariscal & Christian were both incredibly knowledgable and helpful the whole way up. They gave us input on climbing and the best methods but did not force anything on us. When we decided to turn around a thousand feet before the summit, neither Mariscal nor Christian made negative comments but were understanding and guided us right down. I really enjoyed the trip and appreciate both of our guides. It was a great experience and I would recommend Mariscal and Christian to anyone.

We had a delightful time: excellent support throughout, down-to-earth + good-hearted people and new friends, less traveled destinations, and fantastic cuisine. Andean Summit Adventures is highly recommended to book your Andean adventures with. Shoutout to Liz, Jaime, Sebastian, Juan Diego + the rest of the team. See you all again soon. THANK YOU.

We would like to take a moment and give our Gratitude to Andean Summit Adventure. If there was a place to write 10 stars I would. It’s taken a week to write this review because I wanted to find the best words that I could to write a 5 star review. Paulina and I had been in touch with Elisabeth for over a year prior to our trip. She was very attentive and knowledgeable. She answered the million question we had for her as well. Elisabeth put us both at ease that we had chosen the best guiding service to take us to the summit of Chimborazo. At Andean Summit Adventure, they make you feel not like clients but family and people that you can call friends. We did the 8 day trip, this included climbing Ruco Pacincha 4,696m, Iliniza Norte 5,127m, Cotopaxi 5,897m and last but not least Chimborazo 6,270m. With Andean Summit Adventure safety and the well being of the people comes first before anything. This was an incredible touch that really made us feel that they cared and had our best interests in mind. After planning and training to climb Chimborazo for two years Andean Summit Adventure made this happen. With Elisabeth’s knowledge of all the mountains and great organizations she matched us up with Jaime our Guide. He is a top grade guide with lots of experience to help you succeed. I would not hesitate for a second to use them again to climb in Ecuador or other countries for that matter. Much regards, Project Chimborazo: The Climb to Inspire Kevin Mallia
