Huayna Potosí/Caca Aca 6088 meter/19968 feet
Huayna Potosí, only 25 kilometer away from La Paz is the most frequented mountain in Bolivia. It is almost certainly the most often climbed 6000 meter mountain in the world. Vehicle access along the La Paz - Zongo road goes all the way to the foot of the mountain. An easy three to four hour walk from the base camp leads to the high camp 5150 meter/16892 feet and further two hours to the “Campamento Argentino” 5450 meter/17880 feet (the traditional high camp).
If you are traveling alone and do not want to share a guide on the second day and attack the summit alone, you can continue the second day with a guide exclusively for you
We offer this option, because each guide goes with two people and if one of them gives up on conquering the summit, then, for safety, both people return to base camp
Day 01
We will pick you up from the meeting poing or your hotel (if this one is on the city centre), for a trip of approximately two hours to the Zongo Platform (Base Camp) 4650 m.a.s.l. Lunch. In the afternoon we will practice basic high mountain security systems on the glacier. After this practice we will have fun climbing ice walls. Return to base camp. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2
oximately to the Zongo Platform (Base Camp) 4750 m.a.s.l. We will begin a gentle 03-hour hike through the moraines and then over the glacier. From this point on, we will use our safety equipment. We will ascend to high camp or Campo de Rocas (5200 m.a.s.l.) without any technical steps on the route. Includes: Lunch and Dinner. Overnight.
Day 3
Early in the morning we will start with a slow walk. Close to our camp, we will find the first technical part of the trip, called La Pala, a 45º wall. Once we have overcome this obstacle, we will continue walking slowly until we find the last technical part 45 to 50º until we reach the summit. All this will take us approximately five hours. We will descend to base camp and then return to La Paz.
