About this trip

This fantastic four-day, three-night trip is jam packed with fun and relaxation at the same time. How are we able to balance a full itinerary of fun and relaxation? Keep reading!

We are calling it a Harvest Spectacular because we are including several very seasonal and timely activities around the idea of harvests: the Mount Hood Scenic Railway autumn excursion, we will be visiting four wineries to taste previous harvests, and we will visit the Hood River Harvest Festival. All of this in addition to attending the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) Second Saturday event when they take out the vehicles and airplanes for a spin (weather dependent), visiting a historic museum, and staying in some great hotels!

Itinerary

Day 1 - Friday, Oct. 11
Mount Hood Scenic Railway

Our Executive Coach will sail our guests into the gorge, with a stop to admire the views on our way to our first destination, the Mount Hood Scenic Railroad. The Scenic Railroad will chug along some beautiful scenery, with some changes in foliage sure to be evident, and have a layover at the fruit company. Guests will have a boxed lunch to eat during the layover or while on the train. Back in Hood River, guests will head to a local vineyard to taste their first of the Oregon Grapes on this excursions. We will check into the Best Western Plus right on the water in Hood River for the first two nights of our journey and have dinner at the hotel.  (L, D)

Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island were Fantastic! Beautiful country, very clean & people were so nice. Loved the inlets and coves.

We discovered many facts about Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The area is rich in history. Meals and accommodations were lovely.

We had a great time. Wonderful people, great accommodations, good food. Great tour director and bus driver. My only concerns were we didn't have a guide with us traveling through from Portland to Halifax. We were unsure about customs since this was our first time outside the united states. Luckily returning the airport staff was gracious to help us. We should of been notified that we would have to go through customs in Calgary on the way and returning that we had to go through security and customs again. Makes a long day when you have to be up before the chickens.

We enjoyed this trip! Wonderful traveling companions and the direction of an experienced tour director who resides in Nova Scotia. The local food was amazing and the history that Anne shared with us was so interesting. Oregonwest did a fabulous tour!

Unfortunately the Lake Chelan part had to be canceled due to fires. Suncadia Resort was put in as a substitute which is not our choice of types of places to stay. Prices were over the TOP!!. The plays at Leavenworth were great, but we missed the bear on the trail in town. Tom's arranging of a trip to the Cashmere Folk Museum was a highlight for us. Too much wine and we were not impressed by it and the fancy name for the purchased snacks was the only thing fancy about them. The wineries did not seem to be prepared for our arrival with only one staff person on hand trying to do everything. The middle winery did not have anything set up for us and offered no information as to what kind of grapes etc. There is a jet boat ride on the Columbia which could have been accessed perhaps since Chelan was out. We will probably avoid a "mini-bus" trip in the future. Only cup holders by the windows, no pocket on the back of the seats for maps, etc., really tight quarters. The first day I was on the wheel well and by our first stop I felt like a "pretzel"(I am short and just over 90 lbs) so can't imagine what most people would feel like. The seat belt holder on the jump seat by the door seemed to "jumpout" and snag my husbands leg causing a pretty good bleed. The only way to see out was mostly to the side you were on as the seat backs are too high to see anything forward. Except the wine snacks, food was great. Really appreciated the nice breakfast offering at the Bavarian Inn, much better than the toughest waffle I have ever eaten, dish of fruit, coffee and fruit at Suncadia for over $60.00 for two. Unfortunately if we really want to experience Lake Chelan one more time we will probably do it on our own. Forgot to mention the the Snoqualimie Falls stop and lunch was really nice.
