A true Celtic wilderness - visit Ireland's most rugged and beautiful region on a wonderful day tour from Dublin. From famine valleys to views of Galway Bay, and a 2 hour visit to Galway city, this tour has it all!

Connemara was ravaged during the Great Famine of 1847-1851, this landscape was left barren however its true beauty intact.

Connemara features in many blockbuster movies such as The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, and the Guard with Brendan Gleeson.

On this tour we introduce you to this amazing part of Ireland, but also take you to Galway city for a 2.5 hour stop. Plenty of time to explore the highlights of this traditional, colourful and beautiful tribal city.

**From 1st April, with the longer daylight hours, this tour will also feature a 90 minute stop at Glengowla mines (entrance included) and a 2.5 hour visit to Galway. At Glengowla you'll have a chance to explore one of Connemara's historic silver mines and also enjoy sheepdog demos and the cutting of turf!

ITINERARY:

DEPART DUBLIN

This tour departs central Dublin and heads west to the spectacular Gaeltacht of Connemara and Galway, the city of the tribes!

GLENGOWLA FAMILY FARM EXPERIENCE & SILVER MINES

Look forward to visiting Glengowla Family Farm Experience and Show Mines in Oughterard, Connemara.

Historically, both silver and lead were mined here until 1865. Some of the lead was used to produce ammunition for both the Crimean War of the 1850s (present day Ukraine) and the American Civil War of the 1860s.

Once you view the underground marble show caves (still studded with silver and lead) you can pan for precious metal and rare stones at the panning station - and keep any gems that you find (which would make for a cool souvenir or jewellery)!

Above ground, you can enjoy the Family Farm Experience. Enjoy a leisurely farm walk to view the animals (including lambs in season), sheepdog demonstrations and learn about how turf is cut as per tradition - before trying yourself!

(Entrance fee is included!)

THE DESERTED MA'AM VALLEY - GLENGOWLA TO GALWAY

Sit back and take in the famous Connemara views on the road trip from Glengowla to Galway city. Your route takes you through spectacular valleys including Ma'am Cross and down the coast road along a portion of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Incredible views of the lakes of Connemara and Twelve Pins mountain range await. On clear days spot the Gaelic speaking Aran Islands off the coast as we pass the port at Rossaveal and then on to Gaelic speaking Spiddle (an Spideal) on the outskirts of Galway.

LOUGH CORRIB VISTAS

Well know for its fishing, Lough Corrib is the second largest lake in Ireland after Lough Neagh. Surrounded by its abundance of wildlife such as otters, hawks, minks, birds the lake consists of 356 different islands. The most famous island among them is Inchagoil island with its spectacular views of Maumturk range, Joyce country, and the mountains of Connemara.

GALWAY CITY - AFTERNOON AT LEISURE

We arrive in Galway, known as the city of tribes and once home to Christopher Columbus. The city is western Ireland's traditional capital and home to some of our finest traditional musicians. Our stop allows you to explore the city at your leisure. Explore highlights like the Spanish Arch, St. Nicholas Cathedral, the colourful Shop Street or maybe even sample some world famous Galway Bay oysters.

Enjoy 2.5 hours in Galway city at leisure (free walking tour also available)

"Legend of the Claddagh Ring" Shop - 26 Shop Street

O'Máille Aran Sweaters - 16 High Street

Reviews

Excellent trip. Accommodations were outstanding. The hotel was great about opening the kitchen early for days we had early tee times scheduled. Our driver, James, was a key contributor to the overall enjoyment of the trip. He knew the best pubs and the history of the places we visited. His knowledge and sense of humor made him an integral part of our adventure. Having all the arrangements coordinated and scheduled was a huge convenience. Wouldn't do a trip like this any other way going forward.
