The second day begins with an early breakfast at 5:30 AM, followed by a 6:00 AM departure for a steep 3-hour climb to Marampata (2940m / 9646 ft). After a well-deserved break, the journey continues for another 2 hours over gentle, undulating terrain, offering the first breathtaking views of Choquequirao.

Upon arrival at the ruins (3050m / 10,007 ft), you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch and some rest before beginning an in-depth exploration of the site. Only 30% of Choquequirao has been excavated, making it a place of both discovery and mystery. Highlights include the religious sector and central areas, with hopes of spotting majestic condors soaring overhead.

After about 3 hours at the ruins, the day concludes with a 2-hour hike back to the campsite at Marampata. Though demanding, the day is immensely rewarding, with ample time to immerse yourself in the wonder of Choquequirao.

Today we will leave the beautiful Marampata campsite and start our descent towards the Apurimac River and the so-called Rosalina Beach (1520 m/4986 ft). From there we will continue hiking upwards until we reach our campsite of Chiquisca (1950 m / 6397 ft), but as we added the  Machu Picchu Trek Extension, we may camp instead at Cocamasana (2450m / 8038ft). 

The final day of the Choquequirao trek begins with a 3 to 4-hour uphill climb to Capuliyoc, where stunning views once again reward your efforts. At Capuliyoc, a car awaits to take you on the 4.5-hour drive back to Ollantaytambo.

On the way, you have the option to visit the Saywite archaeological site (3500m / 11,483 ft), an Incan complex from the 16th century featuring intricate stone art and ceremonial spaces. Alternatively, you can opt for relaxation at the Cconoc hot springs (1780m / 5840 ft), known for their therapeutic waters, which range between 26°C and 35°C. Surrounded by serene landscapes, the hot springs provide the perfect spot to unwind and soothe sore muscles. After a quick soak, you can enjoy lunch with picturesque views of the Apurimac River valley. 

Finally, we hop in our private car to continue the journey back to Ollantaytambo where you will catch the train to Aguas Calientes. Train schedules will be confirmed during your Pre-trek Briefing, based on your trekking route, distance from Ollantaytambo, and train availability. After arriving in Aguas Calientes, enjoy a celebratory dinner and relax in a Standard hotel, preparing for the exciting visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

Before dawn, we will take a bus up to the ruins of Machu Picchu for a chance to appreciate this famous city in the early morning light. Relax and take in the majestic feel of this ancient Incan construction, or get swept away gazing out over the surrounding verdant mountains. Your guide will give you a 2-3h walking tour of the historic citadel.

We return to Ollantaytambo in the afternoon by the Expedition (tourist class) Train where we will be met by our private car who will take us the rest of the way to Cusco. You will arrive in Cusco approximately 4 hours after your train’s departure from Aguas Calientes.
