The anticipation builds as we reconvene for a lavish lunch experience in the hills above Bilbao, nestled in one of the city's most revered spots. This exceptional venue beckons with a cellar prelude of light bites and exquisite wine, leading us to the main dining room for an epicurean journey of main courses and sides. The culmination awaits upstairs, where dessert and coffee will be savored, offering a splendid panoramic view of Bilbao below—a truly unforgettable experience that casts the city in a new and captivating light.

Today, we embark on a scenic journey through the wine country between Bilbao and San Sebastian, indulging in a Txakoli tasting at one of the region's esteemed wineries. This crisp and effervescent white wine, famed in the Basque Country, entices with its refreshing acidity and citrusy notes.


Continuing the culinary journey, inspired by Chef Ricky's profound seafood knowledge, we will venture to the picturesque fishing village of Getaria. Here, amidst the captivating coastal scenery, we will indulge in a delectable seafood luncheon, featuring impeccably fresh dishes expertly grilled to perfection. Serving as a delightful interlude between our two main destinations for the day, Getaria also offers an opportunity to wander through its charming streets, adding a touch of exploration to our culinary experience. Continuing our scenic drive, we will arrive at our San Sebastian hotel, offering guests some leisure time before convening for an evening escapade. 


We will rendezvous for a delightful stroll to Ikaitz, an intimate Michelin-recommended restaurant nestled in the heart of the Gros neighborhood celebrated for its fusion of traditional and modern cuisine. Managed by a charming husband and wife duo, this cozy spot is the ideal setting to welcome the New Year. Chef Ricky and Ikaitz share a common philosophy of elevating traditional dishes in a comforting manner, making this venue a fitting choice for our celebration. We will relish a delightful meal together to usher in the New Year, and also observing the Spanish tradition of consuming 12 grapes at midnight—a practice ingrained in the fabric of Nochevieja (New Year's Eve) celebrations throughout Sapin. Tolosa is also celebrated for Casa Julian, a culinary hotspot drawing global enthusiasts with its exclusive focus on the Txuleta steak. With only one steak on the menu, Casa Julian promises an exceptional gastronomic adventure.

Our journey begins with a visit to one of the renowned wineries, where we will indulge in a tasting of their exquisite offerings, savoring the distinctive flavors that define Rioja's wines. Continuing our oenophilic adventure, we will delve into the intriguing world of wine at the Vivanco Wine Museum, gaining deeper insights into the region's viticultural heritage. Our culinary exploration takes us to Logroño, a city celebrated for its tapas scene, and recently awarded the Gastronomic Capital of Spain.  We will roll down the famous tapas street, relishing the diverse specialties the region has to offer. After a day filled with wine, culture, and culinary delights, guests will have the evening to unwind at the hotel, perhaps enjoying the spa or other facilities at their leisure.

As our culinary journey through the Basque Country nears its end, we will bid farewell to the enchanting Rioja wine region and embark on a scenic drive back to Bilbao. Before reaching our destination, we will make a stop at another distinguished winery, allowing our guests to savor the last sips of Rioja's renowned wines. Our next destination is Vitoria, a captivating medieval town celebrated as one of the world's best-preserved gems. Here, guests will have the opportunity to explore the historic Santa Maria Cathedral, immortalized by the renowned author Ken Follett. As the afternoon unfolds, indulge in some last-minute gift shopping or simply soak in the charming ambiance of this medieval haven. Returning to Bilbao, we'll check in to our boutique hotel, a haven of luxury and comfort. Later in the evening, we'll gather for a farewell dinner, a momentous occasion to celebrate the culmination of a remarkable week spent delving into the culinary and cultural wonders of the Basque Country alongside Chef Ricky.

This was my second tour with Chef Richard's organization, and I can say with certainty that it won't be my last. From the moment I signed up for this tour, I knew I was in for something special. Chef Bob's deep desire to know more of Irish food and culture, combined with his infectious enthusiasm, created an experience that transcended the typical tourist route. We ventured off the beaten path, immersing ourselves in the vibrant food scene that lies beyond the well-trodden streets of Dublin. The tour began in the bustling markets of the capital, where Chef Richard & Bob introduced us to artisanal producers, guiding us through the art of traditional Irish bread-making and the nuances of award-winning farmhouse cheeses. His insider connections opened doors to hidden gems, like a family-run distillery, hand-crafted knives, and farms that left our palates forever changed. It is amazing how much food and activity gets packed into this tour without seeming super rushed and rarely getting up early. Hotels are top of the line. Food experiences are all unique and special and vary from home cooked meals on a farm, cooked by the farmer to Michellin starred 24 course adventures. Many excursions are off the beaten path and avoid the crowds while still accomplishing the "must-dos". The addition of amazing chefs sets these apart! Bob Cook is a super nice, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful chef!

What a trip! Richard created an amazing itinerary that included something for everyone. His connections to local chefs, farmers, tour guides, etc made this an unforgettable trip.
