Horses are deeply rooted in the DNA of Hacienda El Porvenir’s team. Being a working ranch with centuries of history in the Pedregal area, a land of Chagras, or Andean Cowboys, this is a natural response to the place that we live in.

The hacienda owns 40+ horses, a group of 8 retired horses and one herd of wild horses that roams freely in the premises of our land.

Amongst our main goals are the cultural preservation of the Charga culture and the restoration of the natural environment and the relationship with Mother Earth. Daily horseback riding expeditions set off to explore and discover the beauty of the Andes, periodical cattle drives are held at our Hacienda bringing together dozens of Chagras and riders from all over the World that come to work the cattle.

Beyond these traditions, we offer Horse Encounters, based on the theoretical framework of Horse Guided Empowerment ®, an eclectic and integrative method, that is about connecting to the intuitive competence of the horse.

Widely used for therapeutic purposes, teacher training, riding lessons and coaching, in Horse Guided Empowerment ®  we ask the horses to guide not only the practitioner and his interventions, but also the client.

The horses are encouraged to use their intuitive abilities and to reflect  our behavior and will assist the client to connect with their  true self, to their heart.

The horse becomes a guide with an almost spiritual meaning. He guides us to a more present self, towards acceptance of emotions, and an empathic, authentic way of life. He helps us to connect to our intuitive competence and shows us a positive attitude towards life.

A typical session of Horse Encounters at Hacienda El Porvenir will be a private activity for a group, family or individuals, led by a professional Life Coach and Certified Horse Guided Empowerment facilitator who is fluent in both English and Spanish. It takes place at the corral of the hacienda, and a group of horses will participate in the session. Usually during the activity clients do not ride the horses, they relate with the herd from the ground level.

No previous experience with horses is needed and we can work with young kids. One session can last from 1H00 up to 2H30 hours

The outcome is fantastic! The session builds a sense of coherence that helps participants to gain comprehensibility to understand the events in life and predictability, manageability that one has the ability and resources to move on and meaningfulness towards life as an interesting source of satisfaction and wellbeing. In other words, the sense of coherence that Horse Encounters activates shows us that the ability to deal with any kind of problem depends on the level of empowerment one is experiencing in his life.

A deluxe tour with a nice car, a highly-educated guide, and perfect English from the guides. They don't rush you, but they have everything planned perfectly so that you have a huge number of experiences packed into one tour. Everything we ever saw on youtube about these towns outside of Cuenca, the tour included them.

I would call this the deluxe tour company in Cuenca. Everything is done for maximum safety and legality. The guides speak perfect English, are officially licensed, and have a deep personal respect for the ecology, history, and future of Ecuador. You can probably find cheaper tours, but you will miss the expert commentary of the highly-educated guides. You won't get the high reliability of this company and the excellent vehicles they use to transport you. Paying a little more for peace of mind is really a good investment in a poor country. We had a great time being shown around by someone who deeply cares about Ecuador and its conservation.

Simply the best. This was a transition trip, because we were moving from one city to another city with all of our stuff. Felipe organized transportation of people and things like a champ. We have traveled with Felipe before, and he is such a delightful, kind, and knowledgable human. While traveling with a 4 year old and 3 month, you could find him playing or watching our kids near by so we can enjoy attractions. He was a SUPER guide. Felipe took us to the nooks and crannies of Ecuador that had social impact. I'm thankful that we got to spend time with him.
