About this trip

Day 1: At the beginning of your journey, our guides will pick you up from your accommodation in Luang Prabang at 8:30. It takes about 1.5 hours by car from Luang Prabang to our starting point, Pak Ken village. We will cross the Nam Xuang River to begin our trek. We will walk through the peaceful Lao countryside for about 1.5 hours. And then enter the jungle and will walk another 1.5 hours. On the way, we will stop for lunch. After passing through the jungle, we will come to the rice fields and continue walking for about 45 minutes. Then we will arrive at our first homestay village, Ngad where the Hmong and Khmu people live together. The walking distance for the day is about 8 km.

In the village, your guide will show you around. We will learn about the Hmong and Khmu people’s different roots and ways of life. We will visit the village hospital, school, knife maker, and corn processing plant. If you are lucky, you will meet the village shaman.

We will eat a traditional Hmong dinner prepared by our guide and Hmong host family. (You are welcome to join us in making dinner if you like.)

Day 2: We will wake up at 7:00 to see how Hmong people process rice into candy, have breakfast at 8:00, and visit a nearby elementary school. (You can have opportunities to communicate with the children, such as introducing yourself to them and teaching them a little English. We recommend that you bring stationery that you can buy in Luang Prabang as a gift.) At 9:30, we will leave the village and walk 5 hours to the Kalong ong village, our homestay for the second day. The walking distance for this day is about 10 km.

On the evening of the second day, we will experience a traditional ceremony of the Hmong people. We will sacrifice a chicken for the ceremony to pray for our good luck and receive a bracelet from the Hmong people at the ceremony.

Day 3: We will get up early and have breakfast. Bid your farewells to your host family and leave the village for Phouno Vanh village. We enjoy a beautiful ascent as you crest a mountain before descending to the river. Take a swim in the Nam Xuang river and enjoy lunch on it’s banks before concluding this amazing tour. From there we will drive back to Luang Prabang.

The trip over all was excellent. First we commend our local guide Mr. Latte in Luang Prabang and Ms. Mone in Vientiane. they are very knowledeable, kind and so accommodating. Mr. Latte and Ms. Mone went all out to make our trip enjoyable and safe. We had a problem with our train ticket for Luang Prabang. Ms. Mone ensured that the problem was fixed. Mr. Latte was always in good spirit and patient and smiling! We liked the itinerary and especially we commend the elephant camp. It was highly educational and fun. We were so happy to knw that the elephants were very healthy and taken cared of!

Definitely a recommendable peaceful and one of a kind place ! It was a joy everyday we were there. Deeply felt in our hearts the welcoming Bacci ceremony, the Alms giving to the monks, the elephant encounter , the sunset cruising ! Topped up with the privilege to sleep over the elephant camp to celebrate birthdays of 2 family members. Unforgettable, located on the relaxing woods beside Mekong River! Very happy in their local healthy food . Nice & preserved culture & place of the people. We really appreciate Manifa Travel service, they gave their utmost capability to made us smiley everyday from pick up to drop off to the airport ! Will definitely tell friends about our experience & will likely go back :)

We had a wonderful 10 night trip in Laos with Manifa Travel. We booked our hotels ourselves and gave Manifa the dates and they then created our itinerary. Everything went seamlessly. The lovely Mong showed us around Vientiane and put us on the fast train to Vang Vieng. We were then met by the brilliant, and fun Toh who took us kayaking and cycling around the beautiful countryside, adapting the itinerary to suit our needs. Then North to tranquil Nong Khiaw guided by the charismatic and knowledgeable Latte. Our final destination was Luang Prabang where delightful and engaging Khane looked after us brilliantly. Our trip surpassed our expectations. Laos is an amazing country, as yet unspoilt by tourism, with stunning scenery and friendly people. Thank you Manifa travel.

Big Kudos to Ai Chit who made sure everything was right for us! The camp is clean, beds are comfortable and food is typical lao style on evening. Breaky is great too. We chose to ride elephant twice with the kids. Elephant are well cared for and look healthy. A great experience for the family!
