About this trip

The trek to the Everest Base Camp is a journey that will take us to the heart of the Everest region to witness the most beautiful landscapes surrounding the world's highest peak. We will ascend to its base camp, climb to the summit of Kala Pattar (5,545 meters above sea level), and visit interesting Buddhist monasteries. Mount Everest, standing at 8,848 meters, is the tallest mountain on Earth and towers majestically over the Tibetan Plateau on the border between Nepal and Tibet. This trek will immerse us in the heart of the peaks and culture of the Everest region, allowing us to admire other stunning mountains such as Ama Dablam, Pumori, Thamserku, Nuptse, and Lhotse.

This journey provides us with the opportunity to explore Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, where we will have ample time to discover the city. From Kathmandu, we will fly to Lukla to enter the vast Khumbu Valley, the gateway to the Everest region. Our route, with an average altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, will take us into areas dominated by the impressive massifs of the Himalayan range.

Our journey will reach its highest point when we reach the summit of Kala Pattar (5,545 meters above sea level), providing us with the chance to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of Pumori (7,161 meters above sea level), Khumbutse (6,640 meters above sea level), Lhotse (8,516 meters above sea level), and Everest (8,848 meters above sea level), forming a majestic snowy horizon. Along the way, in addition to admiring stunning landscapes, we can visit ancient monasteries, experience the culture and hospitality of the Sherpa people, and learn about the Buddhist religion.

The trek to the Everest Base Camp, the tallest mountain on the planet, is undoubtedly a spectacular experience. Exploring the lands of the Sherpas, the indigenous people of this Himalayan region, sleeping and waking up under the ice and rock walls of the tallest mountains on Earth, walking through beautiful rhododendron forests, and visiting some of the Buddhist monasteries in the Nepal Kingdom region are just a few of the experiences we will have during this journey. Vertical invites you to participate in this new expedition, the Everest Base Camp Trek.

The Journey

It begins in the city of Kathmandu, the capital of the Kingdom of Nepal, a small country situated between two giants, China and India. In the Kingdom of Nepal, the majority of mountains exceeding 8,000 meters are found, with Mount Everest standing out for its unique condition. After spending two days exploring this beautiful and captivating city, where we will visit the ancient medieval fortresses and the realms of Baktapur and Pathan, we will fly to Lukla, the gateway to the Solo-Khumbu Valley, the land of the Sherpas.

Lukla is a small village located at an altitude of 2,700 meters. This will be our starting and ending point. From this place, it will take us 13 days to reach the Everest Base Camp, climb a "small mountain" at an altitude of 5,600 meters, and finally return to this village where we will take our return flight to Kathmandu. During these 13 days of trekking, we will visit different villages scattered along the Solo-Khumbu Valley at various altitudes.

These villages are where the Sherpa people lead their lives, where roads for cars or scooters do not exist, and where life is carried out by "walking." It is this same trail that we will traverse day by day to gain altitude and progress toward the Everest Base Camp. Along our journey, we will visit ancient Buddhist monasteries and beautiful mountain passes that will allow us to see, from the heart of the Himalayas, the peaks of these Earth giants. Countless mountains in this area exceed 7,000 meters in altitude, all higher than the summit of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in America. Daily hikes are approximately 6 hours.

We will walk for three hours in the morning and three to four hours after lunch. A team of porters and pack animals will take care of carrying all our equipment. Each participant will need to carry a backpack with the necessary equipment for the day.

Vertical
Vertical was founded 1992 by Rodrigo Jordan along with a team of fellow Chilean Mountaineers who were the first Latin Americans to summit Mt. Everest. Once the team returned to Chile, they decided to use what they learned on the mountain to support different companies in the challenge of developing teams. After their struggle to become the first Chileans and Latin Americans to summit Mt. Everest, they understood that there is an important blend of teamwork, technical, and interpersonal skills needed to accomplish a goal.
