Located 50km away from Guatemala City in the department of Escuintla, Pacaya volcano is one of the four active volcanoes of Guatemala. In 1963 the government of Guatemala declared it a National Park. With an altitude of 2,552 meters over sea level (8,373 feet), the volcano has register at least 23 eruptions since the colonial time. You will start the ascend at 1800 meters over sea level to end at the summit at 2300 meters over sea level. To have the volcano a constant activity, it is not permitted to reach the top, but if you are lucky, you will be able to sea lava at the summit.
