About this trip

Join Blue Planet for another week of world-class diving in beautiful Fiji. We're headed to the Suncoast, close to The Vatu-I-Ra Passage—now a marine protected area famous for its abundance and diversity of marine life—which is arguably the best diving in the country. Come dive, relax, explore and enjoy the paradise that is Fiji. Interested in extending your trip? Join us for a visit to New Zealand!

Fiji

The Fiji Islands are an archipelago of over 330 islands, many of which are uninhabited. They lie at the crossroads of the South Pacific and have a unique blend of various cultures. However despite outside influences, many traditions have remained intact and today’s visitor can observe time-honored traditions, experience well-preserved cultures and share in past legends as they are retold around the kava bowl.

A nature lover's delight, Fiji is renowned for its unspoiled beauty and tranquility. White sand beaches, crystal clear water, lush forests and more are waiting to be explored. Below the surface, the strong currents of the outer reefs bring nutrient rich waters from thousands of miles around, and in turn, lure in some of the most diverse life in the ocean, everything from macro critters to pelagics.

The Diving

Minimum dive certification/experience:  Appropriate for new and experienced divers. Some dives will be deep drift dives in open ocean with strong currents. Advanced Open Water Diver and Enriched Air/Nitrox recommended (both can be completed on the trip).

With more than 390 coral species, around 1200 fish species and five of the world's seven marine turtle species, Fiji is an underwater naturalist’s dream. You can expect to see the healthiest soft coral in the world and some extremely rare macro creatures—like the ornate ghost pipefish, orangutan crabs, frogfish, nudibranch, seahorses, schools of barracuda, trevally, giant groupers — and in all likelihood, turtles, moray eels, grey, black and white tip reef sharks and the occasional tiger shark.

The Vatu-I-Ra Passage sites are a mixture of walls, bommies and drift dives, all of which are teeming with life and color. Sites like Black Magic Mountain, Mellow Yellow and Instant Replay will soon be etched in your memory forever! For those seeking a real thrill, Breathtaker is a deep reef dive to see an incredible display of large fish, white tip, black tip, whalers and grey reef sharks.

In addition to the 12 scheduled boat dives, you have access to unlimited shore diving on the resort's two house reefs.

Other Activities

There's plenty to keep you busy when you're NOT diving. Bask in the sunshine around the oceanfront swimming pool, lounge in a hammock by the beach, try your hand at kitesurfing, kayaking or SUP or venture off on a tour. With visits to the local village, the historic Rakiraki district, caves and waterfalls and even a cooking class, you can fully experience Fijian culture and history.

Volivoli

We'll be staying at Volivoli Beach Resort — the premium, boutique, four-star, vacation destination on Fiji’s Suncoast. Secluded and remote enough to forget the bustle of city life, but close enough to Rakiraki town should you want to do some shopping and exploring, Volivoli has everything you need while still remaining rural and luxuriously untouched.

Spread out over many acres on its own peninsula, 32 ocean view rooms are found along garden paths that wind through brightly-colored hibiscus, fragrant frangipani and flowering bird of paradise. Dine on inspired local cuisine in the two on-site restaurants, enjoy a cocktail at one of the three bars and regenerate in the restorative spa.

Travel

You should plan to fly into Nadi (NAN) on Saturday, February 15 (that means a Thursday departure from the East Coast through SFO or LAX). Once we arrive in Nadi, we'll transfer via shuttle 2.5 hours to the northern part of the island. We'll return to Nadi to fly home or to your next destination on Saturday, February 22. Please email or call the shop before booking your flight!

Cancellation Policy

Upon cancellation of a reservation for any reason, the refund of the deposit and payments made or due will be contingent upon Blue Planet reselling the participant's reservation. Any refund may also be subject to a cancellation fee and payment of any non-refundable fees imposed by the tour company, dive operator or any other contractor associated with the trip.

Dive accident insurance is required for all divers on this trip. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your vacation investment. Contact us if you need more information.

Another home run from Blue Planet! We saw sharks, shipwrecks, and more! Special thanks to our trip leader, Heather, for doing so much to make sure everyone had a blast!

I had a great time on my recent trip with Blue Planet. The dives were great and the group of divers were diverse and friendly. Plus points to Heather for going out of her way to find other activities when the weather didn’t cooperate.

Where to even begin….This was such a great trip! Heather and Jonas made Raja Ampat a stellar experience, from communicating what visas and health forms we needed to organizing an optional tour guide in Jakarta (where most of us had a long layover). It was a wonderful experience with no hiccups. The only thing I wished we had done was one of the post-trip experiences (diving other parts of Indonesia) that Blue Planet offered!

Wonderful experience diving Raja Ampat on Aggressor with Blue Planet. Heather and Jonas make it look so easy. Raja Ampat is extraordinary, so many endemic species. Highly recommend! (just not all at once, okay?)

Blue planet is absolutely spectacular - I try to go on at least one trip a year with them! They've taught me everything I know about diving and show incredible care and dedication to their divers. The trips are absolutely incredible; I wish it was possible to rate them six stars instead of five! I cannot recommend them highly enough and intend to keep diving with them for years to come.
