About this trip

Discover Folegandros , the quintessential traditional Greek Island. The coastline and landscape are wild and rugged. The beaches, near empty. The hospitality, off the charts.

Folegandros is a stark contrast from the crowded party scene of Greek Isles like Mykonos. This 8-mile long island with a mere 650 permanent residents is a haven for travelers wishing to experience traditional Greece. Here you'll find charming, family-run tavernas and hotels sparsely strewn amongst the remote beaches and blufftop villages.

The kayaking route follows awe inspiring coastal cliffs and dips underneath arches and into sea caves. Along the way you'll rest on footprint-free beaches and absorb the serene wild nature undistracted by crowds.

Space is limited on idyllic island adventure. This one is not to be missed!

Circumnavigation Itinerary

Day 1:  Your guides will meet you at the ferry port in the town of Karavostasis and transfer you to your accommodations in the tucked away beach hamlet of Agkali. After an outfitting sessions and introductory kayak paddle, you'll gather as a group for a sunset welcome reception and the first dinner of the adventure. (D)

Day 2:  The counterclockwise circumnavigation begins after breakfast. The first stop is the beautiful remote Katergo Beach. You'll then make your way around the southeastern corner of Folegandros, pausing to explore the fabulous Cave of Georgitsis along the way. The route wrpas up for the day at Chocholidia Beach in the charming port town of Karavostasis. (B, D)

Day 3:  Today you'll paddle the length of the northeastern coast. After a four mile paddle along towering bluffs you'll land your kayaks for a rest at Vorina Beach. Continuing northwest, you'll have the chance to enjoy Serfiotiko Beach before finishing the day's route Agios Georgios. Tonight you'll enjoy panoramic views from your accommodations in Ano Meria. (B, D)

Day 4: The paddling route today completes your circumnavigation of Folegandros. After rounding the northwest corner, you'll continue on to Livadaki Beach. One more hour of paddling along the protected southwestern shore brings you around to Agkali where the kayak journey began. In the evening you can head out on your own in the famously traditional village center and enjoy dinner at a variety of family run restaurants.  (B)

Day 5: Today is all about activity options. You can opt to kayak to several islets offshore of Karavostasis (or even all the way Sikinos). Or you can opt to hike Folegandros' amazingly scenic trails. In the evening you'll gather for an unforgettable sunset hike to the Church of the Virgin Mary and take in the sunset. Your celebration dinner and reception will follow in the village center. (B, D)

My son and I had a fabulous time. Crystal clear water for paddling and swimming. Great scenery. Clean, comfortable accommodations. Wonderful professional, competent, helpful, friendly and enthusiastic guides Chris and Sean. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but I think next time I'll try a different trip.

Our family of 5 had an amazing time exploring the Apostle Islands with our guides. Our kids had a blast and will never forget this trip. We felt safe and prepared for the adventure. And to top it all off the food was terrific! One of our family members requires a gluten free diet and they were able to accommodate that with no issues. Thank you, Chris and Ted and Northwest Passage, we could not have asked for a better family trip!

A great, fun sea kayaking class. Keith Heger is a wonderful teacher. We were given all the necessary kayaking equipment so all we needed to do was show up. My classmates and I learned how to paddle in beautiful Lake Michigan and then learned/practiced rescue techniques. I would recommend this fun and educational class to anyone interested in sea kayaking as Keith was able to accommodate all paddlers, regardless of skill level.
