We will explore:
Learn Katonah Yoga theory + metaphor as it has served as the catalyst to exponential growth and well-being for so many teachers and students around the world.
- asana, pranayama, and meditation through the lens of the seasons, sacred geometry, Chinese Medicine; how and why we practice for inference and information rather than performance.
- body as a house
- magic square
- hands-on adjustments
- restorative set-ups for teaching a therapeutic private as well as cultivating a home practice.
Katonah Yoga is a style and practice that suggests that we measure up instead of guess, cross reference to find our blind spots, and integrate techniques learned through repetition and time that make us more radiant and joyful. The more organized that you are on your mat, the more organized you can become in your daily life.
This training is a continuing education course for teachers and counts as 10 hours towards pursuing a Katonah Yoga certification, however it is not required that you be a teacher to participate. Everyone is welcome!!
*Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.
Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices.
Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern implies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight.
Revelations are revolutionary.
Kate & Chelsey are deeply passionate about creating experiences within the class setting that allows for curiosity through movement, beginning in the body and transcending the scope of what is expected and accepted. They both believe that the practice is truly for every body and that material isn't just a one size fits all. With a combined over 25 years as both existing within their communities as both students and teachers, they embody different narratives through shared studies - Katonah Yoga, functional movement, anatomy, and breath understanding.
Brooke & Chrissy will be assisting!
