African Ancestry Family Reunion trips are curated cultural immersion Birthright Journeys in Africa - centered on reclaiming identity, exploring cultural heritage, and celebrating the resilience of African people. While you may be visiting some of the same places as a standard itinerary, your experience will be heightened and different.

This is an extraordinary journey to the most visited country in West Africa with a primary focus on connecting black people to Africa up close and personal as a revolutionary next step in the identity theft recovery process.

There are a plethora of experiences available in a country like Ghana.  We focus on cultural immersion spending more time outside of the popular city of Accra overall exploring tradition, culture, and language.

This trip is exclusively for African Ancestry Family Members and their guests. Still don't know your African ethnic group? Take advantage of the opportunity to find your tribe while visiting Ghana.. Add a test kit to your booking and have your ancestry revealed during the trip!

Ghana 365

As Africa's first independent Nation, Ghana - one of the few English speaking countries in West Africa - has had a long and strong standing relationship with the historic diaspora since its independence in 1957.

In 2018, African Ancestry was proud to participate in the launch of Ghana's "Year of Return" at the National Press Club as a partner and has maintained a strong relationship with the Ghanian People and tourism industry.

With this Ghana 365 Travel Portal, we are made it possible to go to Ghana any time you want  and always receive the same high level service and incredible, curated experience. Whether you are traveling by yourself, as a couple or with a large group of family members, we are here to welcome and serve you.

Our director of travel is based in Ghana and we are happy to partner with him and The Adinkra Group to host all of our African Ancestry Family Reunions in Ghana.

Ghana is one of the most developed West African nations you can visit. With a in-country staff on ground ready to serve, we are pleased to offer Ghana 365 every day for our African Ancestry Family Members.

Booking Your Trip

Please follow these steps when booking your trip:

1. Select your departure date. The system will automatically make your trip 10 days from your date based on your selection so you do not need to select an end date.

If you're traveling with a partner or a group, ensure everyone selects the same starting date.

2. Please note the first date of your booking is your arrival day.  This means you will need to depart the day before if coming from the US.

For example if you choose September 8th as your departure date, you need to actually purchase your ticket to depart the US on September 7th.

3. After you select your departure date, choose your package.

Please note all packages are based on double occupancy lodging and priced per person.  If you plan on traveling alone or with a group but lodging by yourself, you will need to add the single occupancy supplement. We do not pair roommates.

3. Research your plane ticket. Find dates and ticket prices that work for you. Remember if you choose a 4-day extension, your return flight should be scheduled, accordingly. You'll able to come back anytime and upload all your flight information in your account after you register and book your trip.

Please note you will fly into Kotoka International Airport (ACC). When looking for your ticket, please try to arrive in Ghana by 2 pm, and on your return day, choose the latest departure time available for your return.

Travel Checklist

Ensure Your Passport is Valid for Travel

  • You must have a valid passport for at least six months after your scheduled return date and at least two blank passport pages.
  • Your passport should expire no less than six (6) months after your return date
    • (e.g., if your return date is on June 30, 2025, then your passport should expire anytime after December 30, 2025).

Set Aside Funds for Visa Processing late-December

  • Travel visas are required to enter Ghana.
  • NOTE: Passports must be sent to the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, for processing.
  • Each traveler should have their visa processed before the trip.
  • We will help process visas beginning 6-8 weeks before your departure.
  • There are two kinds of visas for travel to Ghana - single entry (approximately $60) and multiple-entry (approximately $100).  First-time travelers to Ghana are only eligible for single-entry visas.
  • We also offer Visa on arrival for individuals who do not want to mail their passport to the embassy.

Visa Requirements

Ensure You have Physical Proof of Your COVID-19 Vaccination

Ghana doesn't currently require this but we suggest having it on hand

  • We suggest keeping a copy of all your travel documents separate from your original documents.

Ensure You Have Physical Proof of Your Yellow Fever Vaccination

  • The Yellow Fever vaccine is the only required immunization to travel to Ghana apart from the COVID-19 Vaccination.
  • There may be a cost associated with obtaining your required travel immunizations. Please check with your insurance carrier.
  • You need to get your shot at least 10 days before travel if you have not already done so. You must travel with a physical copy of your yellow fever immunization card.
  • If you have had a yellow fever shot, you do not need to get another shot. One shot is good for a lifetime; however, you are required to bring physical proof that you have been immunized.

CDC on Yellow Fever

Consider Bringing Malaria Pills, Imodium AD & Cipro

  • Malaria pills are highly recommended but not required. We suggest taking malaria pills for preventative measures.
  • Traveler's diarrhea is common in a new environment with different foods and weather. We suggest you pack Imodium AD and/or Cipro in case of diarrhea.
  • We will have Imodium AD on-site at each hotel as well as aspirin, Benadryl, and American-brand over-the-counter medicines.

Create A Plan For Your Prescription Medications

  • We highly suggest all travelers consult with their primary care physician before traveling and refill any prescriptions they may require to remain in optimal health while traveling.

African Ancestry
The pioneers of genetic ancestry tracing for Black people around the world since 2003, African Ancestry entered the Heritage Travel sector in 2021 with the launch of African Ancestry Family Reunions. Our travelers have used an African Ancestry DNA Test to determine the present-day African countries and ethnic groups of their ancestors. We then take them home for a culturally immersive experience.
