Travel Tips

General Tips for April Travel

  1. Weather: Expect pleasant weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 75–85°F (24–29°C) and cooler evenings. Light rain showers are possible, so bring a lightweight rain jacket or poncho.
  2. Crowds: April is less crowded than winter or summer, especially after spring break. This makes it a great time to explore popular spots with fewer tourists.
  3. Clothing: Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, swimsuits, sandals, comfortable walking shoes, and a sun hat. Bring layers for cooler mornings or evenings.
  4. Local Events: Look out for events like the Merrie Monarch Festival (celebrating Hawaiian culture and hula), which usually takes place in April.

Maui Tips

  1. Haleakalā National Park: Watch a sunrise or sunset at the summit, but reserve your spot online ahead of time.
  2. Road to Hāna: Spend a full day exploring waterfalls, beaches, and charming stops along this scenic drive.
  3. Snorkeling: Head to Molokini Crater or Honolua Bay for clear waters and vibrant marine life.
  4. Whale Watching: April marks the tail end of the whale season, so you might still catch glimpses of humpbacks, especially early in the month.

Oahu Tips

  1. Waikiki and Honolulu: Staying in Waikiki gives you easy access to beaches, dining, and shopping. Plus, you can visit iconic spots like Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and Iolani Palace.
  2. North Shore: April brings smaller waves compared to winter, making it ideal for snorkeling at Shark's Cove or relaxing at Waimea Bay.
  3. Hiking: Try trails like the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail (great for whale watching in early April) or Manoa Falls for lush scenery.
  4. Cultural Activities: Attend a luau, such as at Paradise Cove, to experience Hawaiian traditions.

Kauai Tips

  1. Nā Pali Coast: Explore by boat, kayak, or helicopter for breathtaking views. April is a good time for calmer waters, allowing better access.
  2. Waimea Canyon: Known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” this is a must-see for hiking and stunning vistas.
  3. Beaches: Poipu Beach on the south shore offers great snorkeling, while Hanalei Bay is perfect for relaxing.
  4. Hiking: Check out the Kalalau Trail (permits required for long hikes) or the easier Sleeping Giant Trail.
  5. Gardens: Visit the Allerton or McBryde Gardens for lush flora and tropical scenery.

Additional Tips

  • Respect Nature: Follow Leave No Trace principles and respect marine life. Avoid standing on coral reefs or approaching wildlife like turtles and monk seals.
  • Local Cuisine: Don’t miss poke bowls, shave ice, loco moco, and fresh fruits like pineapple and papaya.
  • Time Adjustment: Allow time to adjust to Hawaii Standard Time (HST), which doesn’t observe daylight saving time.

Amy at Walker Wellness Retreats helped us create a 2-week dream itinerary through Egypt - from Cairo to Luxor - with a final stop in Petra (Jordan). The trip was unforgettable, and the partnership with the exceptional local team (Your Egypt Tours) was seamless. Responsive and flexible, we appreciated all the help in making the trip happen.

I went on the most fantastic hiking and yoga retreat in Sedona with Brian and Amy. Looking at the photos taken with our group, the trails hiked, the yoga sessions, and especially the food eaten, it's challenging to put in words a review that will ensure anyone considering going on a trip with Walker Wellness will have a magnificent time. I guess two words, no worries! No worries about anything! How do you get there? What do you wear? What will you be eating? What are the details of what you'll be doing? Do they give you enough time to hike if you are a slow hiker? Brian and Amy have thought of EVERYTHING. I did not need or want anything. Right down to the particular cream in my daily coffee. (Thank you, Amy!) And if, along the way, you would like something, a little Starbucks coffee stop and a little shopping, all good. Brian and Amy are there for you. This is not a must-stick to the schedule type of people. They are there to make sure you have a wonderful time in Sedona. Two words: NO WORRIES!

The trip to Senalala Safari Lodge was a daily wonder and outstanding experience. Every bush drive brought unexpected wildlife experiences. Lisa, our guide, had phenomenal knowledge of all the sites, sounds and tracks that we saw each day. Our accommodations were very comfortable, well maintained and staff members made all welcome. I especially like eating the delicious meals family style and getting to know other explorers. I will return!🦒🐘🐃🦓🦏

I recently returned from a Yoga/trekking retreat to Peru (October '24) with Cassie Paul. It was just wonderful. Cassie led this group with grace. I really appreciated and noticed how she frequently checked in with everyone to see how we all were doing and encouraged us daily. I would 100% recommend attending any retreat being led by Cassie. I hope to do this again someday.

Thank you for organizing our dream private tour to Madagascar! We knew we wanted to visit such a magical country but had no idea about logistics and how to get from one place to another. By working with Walker Wellness Retreats, we were able to see everything we wanted to see during the dates we needed. Everything was easy and made planning so much more simple (as it should be for vacation!).
