About this trip

The Huayhuash Trekking is located in the Cordillera of the same name in the Andes of Peru, is the second highest tropical mountain range in the world after the Cordillera Blanca, and the hike that crosses its entire mountain system is considered among the most beautiful treks on the planet.

In its 30 kms from north to south of this range, there are 7 mountains that exceed 6000 meters and 7 mountains over 5500 meters, among the most prominent peaks are the Yerupajá (6617 m), the second highest mountain in Peru and Siula Grande (6344 m), which achieved worldwide fame for being the scene of one of the most epic stories of survival of mountaineering and that was later captured in the book "Touching the void" by mountaineer Joe Simpson.

The Cordillera Huayhuash is also home to dozens of glacial lakes of incomparable beauty such as: Carhuacocha, Juhuacocha, Solterococha, Mitucocha, Juraucocha, among others, and a great diversity of flora and fauna.

Undoubtedly, the Huayhuash trekking is catalogued as the most beautiful alpine trekking in the world, for its beauty and the wildness of its mountains. Huayhuash is the scene of great feats of world climbing and even the history of Peru. Mountaineers from all over the world make the circuit to acclimatize and gain endurance before a peak of high altitude and complexity in the Cordillera Blanca.

The Huayhuash trekking is a magical and unmissable circuit for the landscapes that it offers every day and for the challenge of reaching the passes that exceed 4500 meters above sea level, even reaching 5000 meters above sea level. We have no more words to describe this impressive mountain range, come with us and discover first hand what Huayhuash has for you.

Reviews

Raju Expeditions and our lead guide Ricardo and his team of chefs, horsemen and donkey drivers were topnotch. Professional, adventurous and caring. Food was plentiful and they run a tight ship with excellent campsites, timing, and planning. It's a tough trip with daily high altitudes, long and sometimes steep ascents and descents. Know what you are getting into.

Maravilloso, desde la travesía hasta el guía y su equipo de trabajo.

We ha da great trip with Andean Raju. We had looked at going with Krusty but switched services about a week out due to poor communication from them. We had super helpful guides, great cooks, friendly arrierros and the trip was as comfortable as you can get for a 10 day trek in the Andes. It was well worth the extra $200 USD to know that we'd have enough food, a clear itinerary, and well paid staff with us. Would definitely recommend Andean Raju if you're looking at the various trekking services, we've heard some horror stories from other folks/guides and the peace of mind for a trip of this type is important.

i really enjoyed the Huayhuash Trek with Pablo/Andean Raju. they came through with everything they said they would. the trek itself can be considered challenging. the altitude and elevation gain per day can be tough especially if you haven't acclimatized yet. but beautiful views throughout. we had 3 clients with 1 guide Darwin, 1 cook, Merlin and 1 donkey driver Leodan. they were all great! Darwin allowed us to hike on our pace when possible. and Merlin and Leodan always had camp set up by the time we arrived and soon food was ready. we had breakfast, snacks, lunch, happy hour and dinner each day. i had an amazing 8 days! Cedros Alpamayo didn't happen because there wasn't enough clients to run the trip. would definitely recommend them!

i booked both Pisco Peak and Mateo Peak thru Andean Raju. for Pisco, there was supposed to be two other climbers but they cancelled and Pablo (the owner of Andean Raju) still honored the booking. so i was the only client with the guide (Paulino). which was great for me. looking back, i quite enjoyed Pisco. you first hike to the Refugio which was nice by the way with nice dinners. and from there Paulino led me through the moraine. he ice climbed to the top of the glacier and belayed me up. once you get on the glacier it's much easier terrain because you're on snow now but the altitude definitely made it challenging. Paulino was great, took as many breaks as i needed and he was always close by. never really left me side actually. on the way back, had to rappel down the ice wall. it was a hard climb. even better was the next day, on the hike out, he took me to Laguna 69 and i was able to get there pretty much before everyone else and enjoy the lake. would definitely recommend Pisco with Andean Raju. Mateo Peak was quite the opposite. no fault of Pablo and his guide (i can't remember his name). was just too crowded and the conditions were icy. it felt like the picture on Everest where everyone was in a line. not quite as bad but you get the sense. i'm surprised there wasn't any accidents. in my opinion, i would skip Mateo. would definitely recommend Pablo and Andean Raju. they came through with everything they said they would do.
