About this trip

Walk among the glaciers, mountains and volcanoes of Iceland.

Explore the beautifully rugged landscapes of Iceland’s western peninsulas with soaring coastal cliffs, centuries-old volcanic glaciers and idyllic waterfalls on an eight-day adventure. Enjoy a boat cruise between icebergs at Glacier Lagoon, trek around vast waterside craters, marvel at geothermal hot springs, witness the steamy eruptions of a giant geyser, and see the giant Skogafoss and Dettifoss waterfalls in all their splendor. See the best of Iceland with expert local knowledge and time to explore – you’ll get a true taste of this Northern European outpost.

Please be aware that you must be able to walk up to 3 miles and be able to manage your own luggage up steps if need be.

We specialize in tours for adults only. We take you away from your everyday world and the necessary distractions of family life.

Safe and responsible travel

We're committed to ensuring our trips remain safe for everyone — for our travelers, our leaders and crew, and the people we visit along the way. As responsible travelers, anyone who chooses to travel with us has a duty of care to themselves and the people around them. Travelers are required to comply with local regulations and laws.

What are the medical and vaccination requirements?
Medical and general vaccination requirements differ between nations and as we are not medical practitioners, we unfortunately cannot advise on this issue. Please see your local GP or travel doctor for details and advice about current vaccination requirements.

We believe vaccinations play a key role in saving lives and helping to keep people safe. Around 70% of the world is vaccinated against COVID-19 but vaccination rates remain low in some of the destinations and communities we visit.   Therefore proof of up to date COVID Vaccine is required on all of our trips.

Passport & Visa

All travelers must have a valid passport for international travel and many countries require at least 6 months validity from the date of return. Some countries also require a machine-readable passport and/or unstamped available pages. When assisting with an international travel booking, we will assume that all travelers on the booking have a valid passport. If this is not the case, you must let us know. It is important to ensure you have valid passports, visas and re-entry permits which meet the requirements of immigration and other government authorities. Any fines, penalties, payments, delay or expenditures incurred as a result of such documents not meeting the requirements of those authorities will be your sole responsibility.

Me and my husband had a wonderful time. It is great to go on a trip and not have to plan what you are doing and just go with the flow. This was my third trip with them and I have neve been disappointed. If you want a trip you don't have to plan but get all the amazing experiences I would recommend them again and again.

I chose this trip because of the wonderful itinerary., and it did not disappoint. We biked, hiked, visited villages and helped purchase wheelchairs and a water filter system for those in need. We snorkeled and swam with sea turtles. Our guide, Lena, was fantastic in every way, and the hotels were clean and beautiful. It was a fun trip, and I highly recommend it.

So many thanks to Melissa and Wade on my most recent trips with Penny Pinching Globe Trotters (PPGT). I just returned home from participating in three consecutive trips that were scheduled close together on the far side of the world – Northern Thailand, Thailand Beaches and Bali in April. What a world wind trip! Our Bali trip was a fast moving trip around the countries of Bali and Lombok with the final 2 days spent on the little island of Gili Air. We saw so much in our time in Bali including a village visit and Fire Dancing in Ubud, the edge of the Mt. Batur Caldera, staying with a family in their home in Sibetan taking a cooking class and learning to play an angklung, ricefields and weavers in Sideman, as well as our time in Lombok where we saw the waterfalls on the slope of Mt. Rinjani, visiting village women’s collectives for pottery and natural dyed woven fabrics. Bali and Lombok highlights included snorkeling in the West Bali National Park near Lovina and on the north shore of Lombok. I enjoy traveling with PPGT so much I’m already booked for three more trips – Galapagos in April 2025, East Africa in September 2025, and the Maldives in November 2026.

I just returned home from participating in three consecutive trips that were scheduled close together on the far side of the world – Northern Thailand, Thailand Beaches and Bali in April. What a world wind trip! On the Thailand Beaches trip, we had a combination of beach, boat and snorkeling excursions to places ;like the Phi Phi Islands and its famous Maya Beach, the Thapom Klongsongnam Urban Forest and the Banyan Forest in Khao Ka Rot and cultural visits to the Tsunami Memorial in Khao Lak, the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation in Phuket, and experiencing Thai New Year which was a hoot! The Thai cooking classes were especially wonderful discovering how much I love spicy Thai food!

The Northern Thailand trip had opportunities to see temples like the Doi Suthep, the Blue Temple and the White Temple as well as visits to widely varied places like the Grand Palace in Bangkok, the Ancient City of Ayuttaya, and the small town of Doi Mae Salong near the Burma border that gave me such an appreciation of the people of Thailand, their history, and their beliefs. Interspersed were lots of interesting activities like spending the night on a rafthouse, visiting an elephant sanctuary, seeing the first tea plantation in northeastern Thailand, being welcomed into a Tai Lue village to see their daily life – weaving, cooking, painting, singing, and dancing. The Thai cooking classes were especially wonderful discovering how much I love spicy Thai food! My family has been my rock.....my greatest source of strength when my world was falling apart. When I told them about my plans to get back to traveling and the possibility of traveling solo, they all had the same request....please don't go 100% alone...find you a group or tour company. After looking at more than I can remember and realizing that most just weren't the right fit for me, I found Melissa and Wade and Penny Pinching Globetrotter. Their small group sizes, culturally immersive and eco-touristic active itineraries were just what I was looking for. With the opportunity to journey through a new country with like minded travelers, I was sure that this group was for me. Even though I would be traveling alone both to and from the destination, once there, I would still be traveling to meet new people and experience new things...just not completely on my own. And I was right! I had a wonderful experience with a terrific group of people that began as strangers, but ended as friends ❤️

This is my 2nd trip with Melissa and Wade. Having now spent a month of days with them, two continents and destinations I can tell you if you’re looking for a real experience without a lot of the hassle their trips are ideal. I have travelled solo and done all the work so I have a good frame of reference for what goes into planning an idyllic experience. Melissa and Wade with the help of a local guide really take the worry and stress out of planning. When things don’t go as planned they will remove the obstacles and get you back on track whether that’s illness or just circumstance they’ve got you covered. If you yearn to learn about the culture and have a real experience meeting the local people and getting off the beaten path these trips are for you. I have some solo trips planned but hope to travel with them again.

Penny Pinching Globetrotters is my go to for my trips. Peru is my 4th trip with Penny Pinching Globetrotters. Melissa plans every trip down to the smallest detail. Makes traveling so easy. I book my plane ticket and pack my clothes and I’m ready to go. I have been to some amazing places and met wonderful people because of PPG. I have two more trips already planned with Melissa and Wade. Looking forward to seeing new places and meeting fellow travelers.
