On the way to the Irazú Volcano, we will find incredible views. Once inside the National Park (3432 meters above sea level), if luck is with us, we will see coatis and hummingbirds visiting the colorful flowers that this area home. From the parking lot to the main crater area (300 meters), there is an accessible trail where we can talk a little about the area’s history and vegetation. Then, we provide ample time to admire the imposing main crater.
On the way to the restaurant for lunch, we stop for photos of the magnificent view the route offers and why not, a stop to buy delicious strawberries. Lunch is included at an accessible local restaurant.
Then, we will go to The Botanical Gardens, which offers a colorful show of plants and orchids. You can see more than 15 thousand species of orchids of which almost 1000 are native to Central America. You will also find the botanical gardens are home to many other plant species from almost every tropical region of our planet. The trail is totally accessible, has an accessible bathroom, and accessible restaurant to have a snack if you wish.
What to bring: Waterproof jacket or coat, closed-toe shoes, long pants, umbrella, insect repellent, sunscreen, hat, a bottle of water, your phone and/or camera to take a lot of pictures, and a great sense of adventure and curiosity.
