Enter the wonderful world of the Gyreum, an earth ship style eco-dome tucked into the rolling hills outside Co. Sligo. Built to be a regenerative gathering place, this circular building has energy that accentuates community gatherings. Each piece of rubbish is separated, with a goal to have the smallest footprint possible. There are individual beds and rooms throughout the perimeter building, most will be in a semi-shared sleeping space.
The Gyreum is a 20 minute drive to Strandhill, where we aim to surf most of our sessions. There are also plenty of waves in the surrounding area should the swell take us elsewhere from Strandhill!
Surf Level Required: must be able to catch your own waves.
With 3 top professional longboarders as our surf coaches, an emphasis on improving our surfing skills will be priority throughout the retreat! Kassia Meador, Leah Dawson, and Makala Smith have long been studying the techniques of surfing, and have been coaching and hosting. Salty Sensations retreats together for four years. Their in-depth, warm-hearted coaching is highly unique as they help to bring focus to tips that can help surfers where ever they are in their surfing journey. The surf coaching team will identify personal progress tips for each participant.
Co. Sligo offers a variety of waves. We suggest bringing longboards, fun boards or fishes if you like to ride them!

Enjoy this ancient Irish tradition of seaweed bathes! There are bathhouses all over Ireland, where they bring in daily fresh cut seaweed to private rooms with a sauna and bathtub. Seaweed is a powerful healing tool for circulation, skin issues, muscle aches, joint pain and so on. This hour long Seaweed delight will take place in your own private tub and will leave you with the silkiest skin and hair you've ever had ("Speaking from experience, I have very dry hair, and post seaweed bath, its the best its ever felt!" says Leah from Salty Sensations)
The Bathhouse is located right at Strandhill beach, so we'll have a short commute to the best post-surf treat!
Kassia Meador has been working with Sound and vibrational medicine for over a decade. During our retreat she will facilitate a few sound meditation journies. With the intention to support you in southing your nervous system and nourishing your mind body and spirit. The Gyreum holds a special space for sound baths, allowing the sound to travel in interesting and unique ways!
Our friend and local photographer/filmer extraordinaire Gary McCall will be capturing video content of some of our sessions. We will do at least 3 group video feedback sessions through the week.
These video feedback sessions will aim to identify different areas in which you can improve your surfing that we will highlight and offer our expert advise. When we see ourselves on video it helps to bring a visual awareness to what is working for us and what is working against us and how we can improve!
For those of you who may be a bit shy do not fret our video feedback sessions are never judgmental or negative in any way.
Our video feedbacks are always supportive, encouraging, fun, playful, and highly informative. We love to do group feedback because we can all learn from each other and we love creating an energetic environment for the feedback experience!
We will loosely hold group body movement sessions throughout the week as the daily surf schedule allows.
