Day 1
Monday June 23rd

· We will depart at 9am from the Gainesville Times office, by luxury motor coach.
· We will arrive in Downtown Charleston in the afternoon, where we will explore (and Shop) the Historic City Market. Throughout the 19th century, the market provided a convenient place for area farms and plantations to sell beef and produce; it also acted as a place for locals to gather and socialize. Today, the City Market's vendors sell souvenirs and other items ranging from jewelry to Gullah sweetgrass baskets.
· We will arrive at our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Mt. Pleasant. Everyone's luggage will be delivered to their room, where they can freshen up before our cocktail party, to meet and greet your fellow travelers!
· Dinner will be at Pages Okra Grill in Mt. Pleasant. Page’s Okra Grill offers flavorful eats and tasty homemade desserts. They are a family owned and operated restaurant whose house specialty Ashleigh’s Shrimp + Grits, they have a reputation all their own and have been featured on the Travel Channel and in Southern Living Magazine.

Tuesday, April 24th after breakfast:

· Gullah/ City Bus Tour. We will explore the places, history, and stories that are relevant to the rich and varied contributions made by Black Charlestonians.
· Fort Sumpter and Fort Moultrie Tour: We will learn where the bloodiest war in the history of the United States began. We will take a short boat ride and walk to the site where the Civil War Started.
· Lunch provided on the boat.
· Harbor Tour- History surrounds you on a Guided Charleston Harbor Tour. As you cruise the harbor, you’ll pass by notable American landmarks, including Fort Sumter, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, Charleston Battery, the Ravenel Bridge, and Castle Pinckney.
· Dinner at the exclusive Swamp Fox restaurant and Bar. We will start with a complimentary glass of champagne then dine on classic low country cuisine using fresh ingredients and locally caught sea food.

Wednesday, April 24th after Breakfast, Check out of hotel.

· Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens- Recognized as the #1 Plantation in the Charleston Area by USA TODAY 10 BESTS. Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. The family and descendants of Major Boone were influential in the history of South Carolina, the colonies and the nation. In 1743, the son of Major John Boone planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. This spectacular approach to his home symbolizes southern heritage and will take root in your memory for many years to come.
Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens, tour includes:
  Private guided tour of the first floor of the plantation
  See the Gin House, visitor center, museum, and gift shop
  Covered wagon tours across the entire property (if weather and road conditions allow)
  Unique one-of-a-kind “Exploring the Gullah Culture” live presentations
  Black History in America Exhibit on display in nine original brick cabins that housed the enslaved
  Stroll through the outdoor gardens which are a showcase of color
  Butterfly Garden
  We will enjoy lunch at the Planation and then board the bus for home, we should arrive at the Gainesville Times office around 6:30pm.
