About this trip

We have created this tour as an add on from our "Enchanting Egypt Tour" however it can also be a stand alone tour. We start in the stunning coastal town of Sharm El Sheik, holiday destination to the rich and famous Egyptians, and then we move to the cool vibes of Dahab, home to deep sea divers and expat hippies. Our stay in Dahab focusses on visiting Mt Sinai and St Catherine's Monastery, the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

After this we cross by ferry to Wadi Rum

JORDAN

Jordan, officially known as Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, has a population of only 10 million, and covering just over 90 thousand square kilometres.

Its capital is Amman.

The country is bordered on the north by Syria, to the east by Iraq, and by Saudi Arabia on the east and south. To the west is Israel and the occupied West Bank, while Jordan's only outlet to the sea, the Gulf of Aqaba, is to the south.

Sunni Islam is the dominant religion in Jordan. Muslims make up about 93% of the country's population. There are also a small number of Ahmadi Muslims, and some Shiites.

There are also around 6% Christian population.

The Constitution provides for the freedom to practice the rights of one's religion and faith in accordance with the customs that are observed in the kingdom.

Arabic is the official language. English is also widely used, especially in the business and tourism industries.

The kingdom is of course most famous for the site of Petra, but is recently becoming well known as a movie set with many recent movies being filmed in the deserts of Wadi Rum

Things not to forget:

Passport, Journal, Camera, Prescription Medication, Converter Plug & Chargers

◊ Arrival Procedure Your arrival airport is Queen Alia International Airport. Our airport representative will meet you prior to passport control. He will have a sign with your name on it and will have the documentation needed to complete arrival process.

Please do not proceed to passport control on your own.

Should you be unable to locate him, the office number in Amman is +962 655 38325

◊ Currency The local currency is JD – Jordanian Dinar We recommend USD if you bring cash

A travel card is also a good back up with USD

ATM's and money changers are easily found.

◊ Entrance Visa: As you are travelling with an authorised tour operator your entrance visa is waived.

◊ Border Crossings: Please see your itinerary notes for most current information if your trip involves a border crossing.

◊ Shopping There will be several opportunities to spend your tourist dollars although Jordan is not known for its bargains.

Please consider the exchange rate and value before you make a purchase.

◊ Personal Purchases: Please allow yourself a small daily budget, around USD$10-15 for snacks, tea, coffee, soft drink etc

Depending on your itinerary you will also have to purchase you lunch or dinner each day.

Breakfast is included at all hotels

Room service, laundry etc will also be at your own expense

◊ Insurance Our rates do not include any kind of travel insurance and each guest must make sure to arrange his own necessary insurance prior arrival to Jordan. We will do everything possible to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. However, all travel involves some degree of risk and uninsured activities like horse riding in Petra, Carriages in Petra, Jeeps in Wadi Rum, Camel riding etc, we strongly recommend that you take out appropriate travel insurance for your adventure.

Your insurance protection should include cover for cancellation, medical and repatriation expenses, personal injury and accident, death and loss of personal baggage and money and personal liability. Insurance cover offered by credit card companies or reciprocal medical cover agreements are often not comprehensive

◊ Food: Jordanian cuisine is influenced by its

geographical location.

You will get to taste a variety of

North African, Persian, Mediterranean, and Middle

Eastern food.

Please let us know of any allergies

◊ Alcohol: Available in most hotel bars however don’t be surprised if have a night or two without your favourite beverage as some hotels are ‘dry’.

◊ Dead Sea: One of the highlights of any trip to Jordan is to float in the Dead Sea. The mineral rich water is great for your skin and therapeutic for many health conditions. Please ensure you take some water-proof footwear to get to waters-edge and goggles to prevent the water getting in your eyes. Goggles are not a necessity but if the water gets in your eyes it will sting quite badly. Read the signs in the area and use the fresh water to rinse off once you are finished.

◊ Petra: The famous treasury is approximately half an hours gentle walk from the entrance to Petra. There is an option to go in horse-back for part of this distance but we recommend where possible to walk.

There is also an option to use a horse & carriage and we also discourage this unless you have mobility issues in walking through the Siq.

Once inside the main site there is lots to explore it can take from an hour to a full day depending on your schedule and level of fitness.

There are toilets inside the site and small snack shops to purchase drinks etc

◊ Wadi Rum: The 4WD jeep safari is done in open back utilities

◊ Smoking: Is a part of the Middle Eastern culture with the regular use of ‘shisha pipes’ in local restaurants.

◊ Clothing: Casual and comfortable!

Ladies: Long shorts or ¾ length lightweight pants, a

selection of wash and wear shirts.

Lightweight dresses if you prefer.

Knee length or below is good.

Take one lightweight jacket for late night or early

morning. Scarf for mosque visit and a sarong over

your swimmers in resorts.

In the winter be sure to pack for very cold nights

Men: Shorts, jeans, t-shirts and a jacket

◊ Dress Code:  As most of the places we go are tourist areas dress code is very casual. Dress for comfort but try ladies should try to avoid anything to revealing or short especially when we visit local places like markets.

◊ Shoes: Please make sure you take comfortable

flat walking shoes as most of the sites have

un-even ground, desert sand and rocks.

Also take at least one pair with nonslip sole

◊ Weather: Due to its geography the weather in Jordan can vary from the desert to the mountains. Check temperatures depending on time of year of your visit.

◊ Internet: We will have access to internet at each hotel, mainly in the foyers and it is free.

◊ Power Supply: Don't forget all your chargers for camera, phone, I-Pad laptop etc

Jordan takes a mix-and-match approach to electrical sockets. European round two- and three-pin plugs along with British square three-pin plugs are all used. We recommend a multi adaptor if you have one.

◊ Water: We recommend you drink bottled water throughout your stay in Jordan.

It is fine for showering, washing clothes etc

◊ Public toilets: There are public toilets at most of the

sites we visit.

Most public toilets throughout the Middle East

and Europe require payment to the cleaners so

try to keep your coins for this.

Where possible use your hotel or the restaurants.

Always carry a pack of tissues and hand sanitiser with you.

◊ Medication: Please remember to take enough

prescribed medication for duration of the tour.

Chemists are very easy to access and things such

as anti-biotics are generally available over the counter

◊ Fitness Level: A moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy all the sites we visit. Some of the days we are out and about all day but walking is always at a strolling pace as there is so much to see and take in.

◊ Exercise: The hotels usually offer a gym and it is perfectly safe to walk around the streets near any of your hotels in Jordan.

◊ Photography & Drones:

Drones and wireless planes are not allowed in Jordan at all and will be confiscated at borders on arrival.

Photography & Video Shooting in Jordan

Photography in Jordan is widely allowed but if there will be any video shooting then this is not allowed at sites and must be permitted in advance from authorities and this permission usually takes 21 days in advance with certain requirements information needed in advance, please contact us for more information.

Equipment like big lenses, big zooms, large cameras ... etc might be prohibited in Jordan and might be confiscated upon arrival.

Ask permission when taking pictures of someone, especially women.

Be aware that some traditionally-dressed locals expect some payment when they ‘pose’ outside historic sites, especially in Petra.

The trip to Morocco was amazing, extremely well organised and paced to our fitness level and interests. Accommodation was excellent, food was great, only suggestion would be more local food rather than western food. Highly recommend Vibrant Woman Travel, will definitely be going again.
