About this trip

Yoga, hiking, camping, adventure, and community await just a short 4 hour drive from the Bay Area in the majestic Lassen Volcanic National Park. Start the day meditating as the sun rises over Butte lake. Two yoga classes a day are offered at sunrise and just before sunset, leaving most of the day to take hiking and swimming adventures around Butte Lake Campground and Lassen National Park or just hang around the campsite and read a good book.

Lassen Volcanic National Park is home to smoking fumaroles, meadows freckled with wildflowers, clear mountain lakes, and numerous volcanoes. Jagged peaks tell the story of its eruptive past while hot water continues to mold the land. Lassen Volcanic offers opportunities to discover the wonder and mysteries of volcanoes and hot water for visitors willing to explore the undiscovered.

We will be camping at Butte Lake Campground. Butte Lake Campground is located six miles south of highway 44 at the end of the Butte Lake road. This remote campground offers a few amenities, but numerous recreation opportunities. Enjoy a sunrise hike up Cinder Cone, a dip in Bathtub Lake or a paddle along Butte Lake's lava rock shores.

What a spectacular, uplifting, fun, magical and heartfelt experience! Pete is a wonderful man and yoga teacher. He has a great sense of humor and is a sensitive and compassionate person. I recommend his Joshua Tree retreat and I look forward to attending more retreats in the future. We had beautiful gatherings for hiking, meditation, sunsets and lots of laughter. We hiked to a hot springs 1 day and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Massage was available by Grace Law who is a fabulous and intuitive practitioner, and our cook, Madhi, who is a stellar and eclectic man— made over-the-top meals! What a privileged and blessed experience. Your heart will be overfilled with love.

My husband and I had the pleasure of experiencing Pete’s yoga retreat for the second year in a row and absolutely loved it. Pete is a master of creating an inclusive community where everyone can feel at ease and welcomed. The yoga practice was fantastic as always but more importantly the time and space created for self inquiry and reflection was just what we needed to show gratitude for the year that has passed and embrace the year ahead. Thank you Pete for the gift you have provided us.

This was an amazing retreat! Pete is an incredible teacher. He bring with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise along with a big heart and a great sense of humor. It was a nice blend of yoga, meditation, and other soul-centered activities. The people on the retreat were all friendly and welcoming. The Land of The Medicine Buddha is very nice. I especially enjoyed the short hike that Pete took us on. The food was AMAZING. And the staff was very friendly too.

Not only did I get the juiciest physical yoga practice but I found meaniful connection and inspiration here. Pete was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me get into poses I haven't been able to yet in the 8 years of practicing yoga. He explained poses in a way that make them easier and less risk of injury for me. The meals were delicious and the rooms were warm and cozy. The people at The Land of the Medicine Buddha were incredibly generous and kind and my new friends that joined me on the retreat were special, unique and real. I left feeling uplifted and strong. It's people like Pete that make me fall deeper in love with the yoga community. This retreat was an absolute treat!
