About this trip

This trip is sold out but Patty may be able to get more tickets so if you are interested, please email me at tripsbypatty@gmail.com or call 404-791-3166.

This day trip to Raleigh offers the opportunity to enjoy the Nation's first state supported Art Museum's collection and immerse yourself in two special exhibits.  It's the 10th year Anniversary of Art in Bloom.   This event features stunning creativity of floral designers from across the state and nation who interpret works of art in the People’s Collection.

Themed the Decade Show, Art in Bloom 2024 celebrates the North Carolina Museum of Art’s 100th anniversary with additional large installations portraying the decades from the 1920s through the 2020s.

Secondly, you can enjoy an on loan exhibit from the Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem.  Layered Legacies  - Quilts invites audiences to consider the multilayered stories stitched into quilts made in the American South between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries. Featured are more than 30 bed coverings representing expressions of love, objects of exquisite craftsmanship, and material documents containing hidden stories of long-forgotten women, both white and Black, wealthy and enslaved, whose hands created and cared for these important textiles.

Finally, there will be time to enjoy permeant collections such as the 30 works by Auguste Rodin and the newest must-see attraction, five European paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, the result of a donation that has been billed as “transformational,” including the museum’s first-ever painting by Pablo Picasso.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Great show! I would do one stop before the show rather than 2 - the mall would have been enough. The bus was very nice.

Patty is a well-organized planner. This was my first trip with her and she is a lovely, friendly and courteous person to everyone on the trip. It was so much fun stopping at the glass and cermic place, then on to Crabtree Mall and finally to the play, Moma Mia. So much fun. I look forward to more trips.

Patty is a meticulous planner and so there is nothing to do but sit back and chat with friends while Donnie, the bus driver, smoothly transfers us from one location to the other. It was a day/evening filled with shopping, dining and enjoying Momma Mia at DPAC. Terrific experience.
