About this trip

There is one single left, but please do sign onto the waitlist if you are interested in a double.

On this specially-curated itinerary, we will discover The Land of the Long White Cloud, its majestic, unspoiled landscape, its stunning food and wine, and the warm hospitality of its people. Starting on the North Island we’ll visit Waiheke, discovering its history and several of its best wineries. In Rotorua, we’ll take a Restorative Journey at a Maori spa and visit a Maori master carver. On the South Island, we’ll really immerse ourselves in wildlife and nature and cuisine. Wine tastings in the Marlborough wine country, a fishing trip that becomes a cooking class in Kaikoura, a train journey complemented by locally sourced food of the regions we travel through, and then a visit to a remote area where we’ll discover a unique history of New Zealand’s origins that not even many Kiwis know.

Even for the well-traveled, New Zealand offers a uniquely refreshing experience. It stretches across the two main islands and is home to only 4.5 million people. I hope you’ll join me on this very special and enriching journey next November.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in NZ

Haere Mai Ki Aotearoa - welcome to the Land of the Long White Cloud. Your room will be available for check-in at 3:00 pm.  If you have an early arrival, the hotel can store your luggage until your room is ready, or you may prefer to have the room booked from the night before to ensure immediate check-in on arrival. This afternoon, let’s Uber to the Auckland Art Gallery which showcases the faces and artefacts of New Zealand’s indigenous people. Discover their origins, the stories of their early endeavors in a new land, their spiritual understanding of the world, their language and customs, history and culture, all contained within a building that is a work of art itself. Later this afternoon there is free time for those who wish to head to the suburbs for a walk in Western Springs Park. Spend the afternoon and evening at leisure. This evening we’ll gather for dinner in the hotel restaurant.

I had a great time. The accommodations were great. The Chicago Dames hosting the event were very attentive. The other guests in our group were wonderful and I feel like I made a lot of new friends. The meals were delicious. The planned activities included many areas of interest that all participants could enjoy. Overall it was a fabulous experience!!

What an incredible experience. This trip was a trip of a lifetime. Claudia did a superb job with Madelaine, organizing and putting together a very well-paced schedule. We had the perfect mix of city, country, high-end dinners, country dinners, cooking classes, sight-seeing, and wine-tasting. We were able to get up close and personal with the local communities and got to learn so much about their culture, food, local wine and cooking. Claudia was a great help whenever we needed her and Madelaine is the epitome of grace, humility and knowledge of food. Looking forward to your next trip Madelaine!!!!! THANK YOU for a wonderful time.

The food and wine were delicious, and the portions were generous. The hosts and producers who welcomed us were pleasant and informative. Our local guide was knowledgeable, kept us on schedule with gentle nudging, and had a wonderful sense of humor. We certainly got to sample the cuisine and also many aspects of the culture.
